DAN AND JACK WERE CLOSE FRIENDS----I ENJOYED THE RELATIONSHIP WITH DAN AND MARTI----WE WERE BLESSED!!!

We will never forget Dan. Who could? With his boisterous laugh and his twinkling eyes, his love for mankind and the joy he brought to people just by being himself. The memories of Dan are many, but the two that stick out the most are how Dan participated in the lives of the kids in the neighborhood. They got a charge out of seeing Dan dressed as a bumble bee when he hosted the annual Halloween cookout before trick or treating. They thought it was great that Dan and Marti would have a 'weenie roast before the kids went out trick or treating-especially since their kids were all grown up. Dan became the surrogate grampa to the girls. Avery and Rianna thought nothing of going up to the door the day Mariah learned how to ride a two wheeler and asking Dan to come out and watch. We have no idea what he was doing at the time, but he came out and watched and shouted encouragement and laughed, just like their own grampa would have done, had he lived in town. Thanks for the light hearted, meaningful memories, Dan. You knew how to make people feel special and loved when in your company.

Family, it was a privilege to have been included in Dan’s life. I joked that he was the only railroad baron that I knew who actually was old enough to have been there when they drove in the golden spike, joining the west to the east! Dan was a modern day renaissance man who had developed many skills and excelled at all of them. His council and wisdom was appreciated by all, his listening ear was welcome in this world of haste and noise. His skill as a musician was an outstanding gift, made all the more special when he lead us all in a rousing rendition of The MINNESOTA ROUSER! His appreciation for the Greek influence was evident in his life’s behavior, but then what do you expect of an SAE!

Dan, your life was a gift to all of us. You were a great dad, and it showed. You were a great husband, and it showed, you were an excellent craftsman, and it showed, you were a great cook, and it showed!

Best of all, you were a great friend and we will miss you.

God Bless you, God Bless your family

Love, Marlyce & Doug Turnbull

Dear Marti and family,
Dan was a special friend, who was always their, who would go the extra mile with you. We had many great conversations about everything, we agreed to disagreed, but it never got in the way of our friendship. He was an active listener, but always had a question too. Always exploring new ideas to challenge you, he had a great interest in many things, especially church theology and the theology of life. We gathered as a group every Tuesday morning and a chair is empty now, we miss him, we loved him and thank God for putting him in our midst.
My God's peace be with you.

We loved Dan. He was kind, generous, funny, and passionate about life. Ben and Sam were saddened by the loss of Grandpa Dan, and our heart ached for Marti, Jen, Ava, Kim, James, David, and everybody else whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, and may his family find peace in the joy his life brought.

I remember having lunch with Marti and Dan in Mpls. with my sister Cynthia just after we had all connected in San Francisco after the birth of their granddaughter Ava. I remember thinking Dan was so generous with his time and energy, letting us ladies gab away while he stayed engaged and contributed in the rare pauses in conversation. I can see how he enriched the lives he touched and I am honored to have spent time with him recently.

Dan was a truly fine gentleman. His faith and his compassion and his love for his family and friends will be long remembered. We are sure he rests now in God's Hands.

Our dear Martha and Jen, it is so hard to find words to tell you how sad we are for you. Dan was a gentle giant;a lovely man, and we have many fond memories of your Colorado visits, however short they were. (They were never, ever long enough!) May God grant you peace. Our love always, Roger, Mary Ellen, Greg and Matt

Dear Marti,
We have fond memories of Dan, especially his part in the annual Keller Reunion, he was so much fun.
We particularly remember his giant sling shot, instructing the kids to pull it back as far as they could and see how far the water balloon would go, trying to hit a nearby tree - then watching it splat when it hit!
Dan was so much fun! We remember him
as a wonderful husband and father.

I write on behalf of 3 entities:
1.Me as a personal friend of Dan's for 50 years.
2.Scale Rails of Southwest Florida
3.Sunshine Region of the National Model Railroad Association.

Dan and I first met while we both were on the staff of the Honeywell plant at Duarte California in early 1960. We were both model railroaders, became immediate friends and even bought a power pack together, splitting the cost 50-50. There was a third member of our group, Charlie Wickman, and I knew Dan would go to visit Charlie on his visits back to Minneapolis. I visited Dan's home during the 1999 National Convention and saw his magnificant layout depicting the Duluth Messabi and Iron Range, with which he won many awards.
Stan Seeds

Dan was a Founding Member of our train club here in Ft Myers Florida, Scale Rails of SW Florida. He was one of the major developers of our fine N Scale Layout and was noted for his scenic backdrops and trees, made from native plants. Dan's name will go on the Club plaque "In Memory".
Stan Seeds GMMR - Treasurer, Scale Rails of SW Florida

Dan was quite active in the activities of the Sunshine Region of the National Model Railroad Association, teaching clinics on his tree modeling techinques and painting back drops. He would always be on hand to operate the N Scale Layout when it was on tour at Regional and Division events. Dan will be missed by his many friends in the Sunshine Region

Marti and Cermak Family my thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Dan was a special person that had a great smile and wonderful laugh. I very much enjoyed working with him on committees for the Villages at Country Creek in Florida. His dedication and presence within our community will be greatly missed. Know that he was a great person and many people miss him very much.
We miss you Dan.....may God bless you and your family.

Dans heart and sense of humor were as big as his stature. We have many great memories of him at the Country Creek Clubhouse, golf course and group trips to other states. We were fortunate to have known him, even if for only ten years. His leading the group in the sounds of the instruments will always be remembered. Our deepest sympathy to Marti and all of the family.

Marti & Jen-I am still reeling from the news that Dan is gone. What a jovial, big-hearted man he was and felt more like family than a family friend. I will think of him every time Lauren or I sit down to play his piano and remember the times we stood around and listened to him play with all his heart. I will teach my kids to hang a spoon on their nose in your honor, Dan!

Dear Marti and Jennifer,
I'm so sorry to hear the sad news. You have my deepest sympathy.
You can be so very proud to be Dan's wife and daughter. I remember him to be a person of tremendous value with faith, honesty, and kindness. I have a favorite bible passage to share with you that has helped me.
Jeremiah 29: 11-12
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
When the going gets tough, I remind myself of this message. It's not the plan we had in mind for our future, but God will be there to listen to us and in our future.
Blessings to you and please know, I'm hurting for you and praying that
God gives you peace and understanding.
With Love,

Dear Marti and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
I worked with Dan at PDI. He was a mentor and friend to me. He made me a beautiful sign on wood that says: Welcome Friends, with a red heart in the middle. I proudly have it up in my kitchen in Denver, CO. I think of him every time I look at that sign. He had a tremendous ability to listen to people and provide guidance. He impacted my life by giving me advice and helping me as I was preparing for a transition. I was leaving PDI to go back to Denver and become a Bat Mitzvah. For my Adult Bat Mitzvah, he surprised me with 2 tickets to hear Art in Denver CO at the Paramount. I remember when he introduced me to Kim (when she worked at Windows on the World)I think that was the name. He was always thinking of the other person and how he could help in some way. He reminded me so much of my father in blessed memory.
With Love and Friendship..

Dear Marti. Faye and I were saddened to hear about Dan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Dan was just a nice down to earth person that enjoyed the people around him, made them feel comfortable while taking on anything and was an assest to his community down in the Villages. The last time we saw Dan was at the garage/party down at the Villages and Dan made it a point to sit down next to almost everybody - including Faye and me just to enjoy the evening with friends. What a wondeful person. I only had two involements with Dan there at the Villages and Dan was right there and COMPLETELY involved. I'm sure Marti that Dan is in good hands and loved and looks down at his family and friends with love. Made GOD bless you and your family and I will remember Dan in my prayers............Thank you Dan.

As first cousins (once removed) Dan and I only got to know each other in midlife. Our paternal family is small, and we oh-so-much valued each other. I regret so much of not being able to get to know this wonderful and warm person better. There was so much that he and I wanted to share and so little that we ended up being able to share. Nonetheless, I feel like my brother has died. I look forward now to sharing with him in Paradise with our Lord Jesus. So much is lost for now. Maranatha!

Dear Kimmy, David, Marti and ALL the family and friends who loved Dan SOOOO much,

I'm still in shock! Dan was one of those extraordinary people that only nice things can be said about. He was a real saint. Over the almost fifty years that I knew Dan, we had some great times and projects together. Dan was friend, family, confidant, soul mate, --- just so MUCH to so many of us. He's left us way too early. Thank god for the memories and the great family of kids and grandkids that will keep his spirit alive for decades to come.

Marti and family,
Prasie the LORD for Dan's life! His zest for life was contagious.
Tragedy is such an opportunity for the Lord to show himself strong in the midst of trials and questions. I am thankful that we don't know it all, and that we are so utterly dependent on kind providence. Though our questions were never promised an answer on this side of eternity, we have His promise of peace in the life to come, through Jesus Christ.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Blessings as we celebrate his full life,
In Christ - Adam, Dawn, Bethany, Alden, Christian, Faith, and Annalise Horbach.
