Daniel Coleman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 2, 2024.
Daniel Herbert Coleman, age 67, of Buford, Georgia, passed away on March 30, 2024 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 22, 1956, in Eljin, Illinois.

Dan will be truly missed by his loved ones. He loved a good time and he loved to relax around his favorite people. He was a curious outdoorsman and it wasn't uncommon while in the woods or on a camping trip that someone would ask, "Where's Dan?" because he just couldn't help wandering off to explore.

Dan was also a Scout Master (Troop 598) and had dedicated much of his time to mentoring and guiding young scouts. He was known for his passion for the outdoors and his commitment to teaching valuable life skills to the next generation.

In his free time, Dan enjoyed camping, tinkering on odds and ends, keeping all the birds in the neighborhood fed, collecting various random items he just might use one day, growing way too many tomatoes and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a great friend and father and he will be missed around the fire.

He is survived by his partner in life, Celia; his sons Jason Coleman along with his wife Jessica and their four children, and Jared Coleman along with his wife Leah; his sister Vicki Fleming; and several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Jewel "Vee" Coleman, and his brother David.
He is also survived by his two Chihuahuas, Coco and Pip, whom he would most certainly want us to mention.

Dan wasn't one for traditional services. To honor that, a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 14th, at the home of his son Jared, anytime between 12PM-8PM at 8635 Jefferson River Rd, Athens, GA 30607. Guests are invited to drop by, share memories of Dan, and enjoy the surroundings that he loved so much. We will have a roaring fire, blast Dan's favorite tunes and raise a glass with his favorite beverages. Come dressed to relax outside in nature and maybe play a few games of horse shoes in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wild Cumberland to help protect Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia, an island that held a very special place in Dan's heart.
Donations can be made at https://wildcumberland.org/donate.

I remember being at Aunt Jewell´s in Palatine, IL. They had a titled basement. Daniel was a kid and he would jump on a rolling hooded hair dryer and ride it across the floor like a toy. One day he went too fast, hit the wall, and it went into pieces. When Aunt Hewelk heard the noise and asked him what happened Daniel threw up his hands and said "It just popped apart."

Daniel was my older boy cousin that I rarely saw as his family always lived away from the rest of us, but every time we were together we reconnected easily.

I am so sorry for your loss. While I did not have the honor of knowing Daniel personally, I am friends with Jason (Son). Any Father would be proud of a Son like Jason.
I pray for peace during this time of grief and a flood of memories that bring smiles to the faces of those that were close to Daniel. Sending lots of love to the Coleman family. - Sam
