On Friday, October 2, 2015, Daniel Eric Hollinger, "Dan", 70, passed away peacefully at the SpiriTrust Lutheran Village of Kelly Drive York, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Dan was born June 20, 1945, in Hanover, the son of the late George G. and Betty E. (Sanders) Hollinger. Dan was a lifelong resident of Abbottstown. He was a 1964 graduate of New Oxford High school. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1963 and was in the active U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1967. Dan worked at the former Borg Warner Co. from 1967 until his retirement in 2004. He was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Abbottstown, a member of the New Oxford Social Club, and a 25-year volunteer fire police with the Abbottstown Fire Co. Some of Dan's favorite pasttimes were walking the trails at Pine Grove Furnace, emailing his friends and watching the races on his TV. Dan is survived by two sisters and their families, Betsy Sholly and her husband Mike of York and Sallie Murren and her husband Ken of Hanover. At Dan's request, there will be no viewing. Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Emmanuel U.C.C., P.O. Box 356, Abbottstown, PA 17301.
