Daniel Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2024.
Daniel Roy Miller was the last of 9 children, born on August 22, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. The beloved husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/Dementia and Diabetes, and faced these illnesses with such bravery and strength. Throughout his battle, he remained positive, and focused on the day when he'd finally get to return home. No obstacle was too difficult to overcome in his eyes. Daniel lost his battle at the age of 72, on May 30, 2024, in Houston, Texas surrounded by his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Consuelo Miller, brothers Pete Funari, Charles Funari, and Bobby Funari, Charles Miller Jr, and grandson Travis Fenn.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Heidi Fenn (Todd), sons Daniel Jr (Claudia), and Ryan (Rebecca), grandchildren Todd Fenn Jr, Thomas Fenn, Caroline Miller, Cash Miller, his sisters Norma Torres, Sylvia Vargas, Shirley Sanchez, DiAnne Garza (Hector), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Daniel graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1969, and attended St Mary's University in San Antonio. While there, he realized his dream of Law Enforcement, and began his career helping others at the Texas Department of Public Safety, where he eventually earned his stripes as a Sergeant. He loved being a State Trooper and taking care of people. He often went above and beyond in the line of duty, and because of this received many commendations during his nearly 30 years in the Driver License Division. He retired in 2001, and was very proud to receive the commission of Special Texas Ranger. He proudly showed that badge off to any and everyone - whether they wanted to see it or not!

In 1972, Daniel married his best friend, and the love of his life, Sandra. During their 51 years together they built a beautiful life with their three children. He cherished the time he spent with his family, and a huge passion he shared with them was his love of sports. Whether he was coaching his kids' teams or cheering them on, he always made a point to attend anything they were involved in. That also rang true later when grandkids came along. No matter what, he was ALWAYS your biggest and loudest fan, and even if you couldn't see him ... you knew he was there! He was a man of many words, and his words of wisdom will never be forgotten.

Daniel will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, generous, and loving person who made a difference in the lives of so many. His legacy of love and his service to others will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

Memorial Service (with DPS Honor Guard) will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 @ 11am, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 Texas 249, Houston, TX 77070.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his favorite charity: www.CDHI.org/donate (in memory of Travis Fenn in honor of Daniel Miller).

My brother Danny was the most incredible person you would ever want to know. He exemplified what it is to be a decent, honest, always caring person who was always there for me, no matter what. He showed me what real love is and not having him here is the hardest thing to handle...His legacy will live on forever and I long for the day I see him again.

Uncle Car-Car was always bigger than life. To me he was always 7ft tall with a badge on his very wifmde chest and emulated what a good peace officer is, quiet but unwavering in always doing the right thing. I loved and love my Uncle and will truly miss him. They don't make men like Uncle Danny anymore and we are worse off without him.

I remember when I was 10 and visiting San Antonio with my cousins that Sandra was dating Danny and they invited Diana and I to go to the movies to watch Grease. I thought it was so cool it was about a guy and girl named Danny and Sandy like them.

My condolences to the family and y´all are in my prayers. I remember as kids, going to uncle Danny´s and aunt Sandra´s house, it was such a treat going to Houston and staying at their beautiful home. Always being the bests hosts and making us feel welcomed. I will always miss those memories. Marisa King

My deepest condolences to the family. Dan was truly a gem. Dan was my first Sergeant at Dacoma who hired me. He had a way with people and always had us laughing. You will truly be missed!

My dad was such a special guy. He always cheered me on with anything I tried. When I was selling bags through home shows, instead of calling it a pyramid scheme, he was proud of me for trying to make a go of it. For one show in particular, I had told my parents I'd be going to San Antonio for it. When he heard I'd be driving there alone, both he and my mom decided to come with me "for support", and my dad surprised me when he sat in the front row and participated in the show and conversations which made it even more fun, but then he asked my mom which things they should get! I loved getting to see his big smile and feel how proud of me he was!

Danny, my brother-in-law was my coach in Little League baseball. He was always a very kind person and very knowledgeable when it came to baseball. I will miss him. SANDRA loved him so dearly, Gabe

This man was a joy to work with, I hated to see him retire. He was my first sergeant at Dacoma and I worked with him again at Grant Rd. Grant Rd were my fondest memories. Always making the employees laugh, before the doors would open and throughout the day. When those doors opened his personality was felt by customers, as well. He didn´t let his uniform get in the way of making people smile. Loved this man and I know he will truly be missed by many. My condolences to his to Sandra and the rest of Dan´s family.
