Daniel Ottis Obituary
Ottis was born on Sept. 10, 1953 to Anthony and Johanna (Purchal) Ottis in Norfolk. His family lived on a farm near Lindsay, where he attended District 42 School. The family moved to Wahoo and he went to St. Wenceslaus Elementary School and later graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in 1971. He worked briefly as a police officer in Fremont and then worked construction for a few years. Following that, he became a corrections officer in Fremont. In 1976 he began to work in law enforcement and worked for various agencies in the area. He also worked as a security officer for Bakers Supermarkets. He was a firearms instructor for civilian and law enforcement for many years. He had been with the Ashland Police Department for the last 10 years.
He was a member of the Blue Knights, Patriot Guard Riders, NRA and Sons of American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eric L. Ottis; and brothers, Tony Jr. and William Ottis.
He is survived by his daughters, Ann M. Kucera and Shellie B. Ottis, both of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; fiancé, Roxane Gelecki of Omaha; his parents Anthony and Johnanna Ottis of Wahoo; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and LeAnne Ottis of North Platte; sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma and Richard Bohaty of Wahoo and Rita and Rex Foster of Gothenburg; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 13 at the Ashland/Greenwood High School Gymnasium in Ashland with Rev. Gary Coulter officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 129, Blue Knights or Patriot Guard Riders.
Marcy Mortuary in Ashland was in charge of the arrangements.

Happy Birthday Honey!!! I wish we could celebrate your Birthday differently. I mis you so very much. I am so hurt of not having you by my side. There are so many times I want to pick up the phone & call you or text you, but I can't. It's very hard coming home & your not there or waiting for you to come home. I hope you can give me the strength to keep going on. I hope you & Eric celebrated your Birthday & had a drink. I don't know if they allow that up in Heaven I'm sure since it's a Special Day just like you are. I hope you liked the Ballons Shadow & I, Carol & Mom & Dad sent up to you with a message. I'm thinking of you today & every day. You are my Special Love of my Life. We will be together again & share the rest of our lives together like we planned. Until then I will always make sure I give you a kiss each night & every morning. I Love You More than words can say. I will never let you go. Happy Birthday my Love.... I will miss you very much. I watch out the window for you to come home. I couldn't wait for you to get home so we could torment Mom I know how much you fun you had & enjoyed it when I tormented Mom. To the Wonderful Man & Love of my Life, my one & only, my soul mate. My Heart was crushed when I was told the Devasting news I lost you. You were taken away from me too soon. We had a whole life ahead of us to spend together. Our future together, dreams we had, making our Wedding Plans & making each other Happy is gone. You will always have a Special Place in My Heart. A Letter From Heaven
To my dearest family, some things Id like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here, theres no more tears of sadness;
Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through.
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you.
Its good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ottis family. Dan was a unique and very rare police officer. He wore a badge, but never used it as a threat. He was there with a better solution to a poor situation. You touched more lives than I believe you ever knew.It was an honor to know such a wonderful man who will truly be missed.
