Danny Harrison Obituary
He grew up a preacher's kid in Western North Carolina and Sugar Grove, Va.
He worked for USDA for 23 years and was an avid outdoorsman.
Dan enjoyed old time and bluegrass music, vegetable gardening, raising livestock, fishing, hunting, reading, and most of all, his grandchildren.
He retired from USDA Farm Service Agency, Galax, Va., on June 30, 2010.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from May 17, 1965 to Nov. 1, 1970. Duty stations: Lackland AFB, Texas, Travis AFB, Calif., DaNang AFB, Vietnam (fought in the Tet Offensive of 1968), Misawa AFB, Japan, Teagu AFB, Korea.
Survivors include wife, Jane Ann (Janie) Blackburn Harrison; son, Daniel (wife Ruth) and daughter Susan (husband Bryan Kitzrow); and stepson, Jeremiah Johnson. The joy of his heart rested in his 10 grandkids: from Galax, Daniel Jeremiah, Elijah, Isaiah and Carolina Harrison and Jayden Johnson; from Oklahoma, Jonathan, Rebekah and Joshua Kitzrow and James Thomas Myers; and serving in the U.S. Navy, Justin Seagraves (wife Heather). Also survived by brother, Tony Harrison (wife Diane); sisters, Teena Harrison and Annette (husband Mark Smith); nieces and nephews, Heather Talent, Rebekah Smith, Jeremy Talent, Jacob Smith, David Harrison, John Harrison and their families.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Dan's honor at Fairlawn Church of Christ, Carroll County, Jan. 1, 2017, at 2 p.m. His son, the Rev. Daniel Harrison will lead us in this celebration of his father's life.
Memorials in Dan's honor can be made to Cancer Patient Support Program, mailed to Office of Development-CPSP Gifts Officer, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, N.C., 27157.

Janie, I am so sorry! Danny was very special to me. He reminded me, so much of my dad. I wished, we could have seen each other more. I know you are going to miss him. But, he is in a much better place. He is with my dad, his mom & dad, and his sister. It is still, so hard to believe! You will always, be part of our family. Prayer and thoughts are with you.
