Bremerton - Darlene Claire Stremel, age 93 passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025 at Bay Pointe Retirement Community, Bremerton WA.

Darlene was born in Puyallup, Washington to Agnes and Clarence Romnes on May 3, 1932. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1950 and attended Central Washington College of Education, now known as Central Washington University. Darlene married Verne Merle Stremel on May 21,1955 at the Mountain View Lutheran Church in Puyallup. She worked as a Service Representative for Pacific Northwest Bell in Tacoma and later in Bremerton until her twin daughters were born. Later, Darlene worked at Clarice's Apparel in Sheridan Park, making lifelong friends with coworkers and customers. In her retirement years, Darlene and her husband Merle enjoyed traveling the globe with close friends.

Darlene was May Day Queen and a Daffodil Princess in her senior year of High School. She was a talented piano player who was the accompanist for the various high school choir groups, a seamstress, knitter, a wonderful friend and the most loving mother her daughters could ever hope to have. Everyone who knew her loved her.

Survivors include Cheri and Kevin McCorkle of Bremerton and Terri Moore of Silverdale, her sister-in-law Norma Harris of Port Orchard and several nieces and nephews and their children. She's predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother, Terrill D. Romnes.

A celebration of life is being held on August 6, 2025 at 1 pm at Bay Pointe Retirement Community, 966 Oyster Bay Ct. Bremerton. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to St. Vincent de Paul Bremerton Women's Shelter, 1117 N. Callow Ave. Bremerton, WA 98312, contact [email protected] or to the charity of your choice.
