Phoenix - Darrel Dean Just was born in Jamestown, SD was on September 6, 1947. He passed away on October 6, 2024 in Phoenix AZ at the age of 77, With his family by his side.

At a young age his family moved to Chicago IL, where his father had found a new job. He grew up there and at the age of 10 years old he bagan piano lessons and over time became accomplished not just in piano but in organ as well. By the time he got into high school he was playing the organ in churches and their choirs. He proceeded to attend Concordia University Chicago mastering in education and music He said he knew he wanted to be a teacher by the age of five. At graduation he was given his calling to begin teaching in Elgin IL.

In the mid-1970s he relocated to Phoenix AZ to take undergraduate courses at ASU. He also became an active member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church. There he became instrumental in the church's decision to start a new school, Gethsemane Lutheran School. Darrel was named the schools director. He started out with one daycare and one class of mixed grades. Darrel made this is life's work. With his back round in music he added a band teacher and they did many memorable music programs at the schoo.l Overtime he grew the school from one classroom of mixed grades to a full grade school of classes from daycare to 8th grade, which expanded the school of several buildings. He eventually even added a swimming pool for teaching students water safety. His tenure lasted 21 years, before moving to a inner Lutheran school for several years before retiring.

He is survived by his brother Dale Just and his wife Margaret Just (Peg), and his life partner of 47 years Dave Brogden. Most importantly he is survived by his beloved students he taught in his 30 plus years of teaching.

His final wishes were not to have a formal funeral. He hopes to be remembered fondly for his sense of humor, dedication to teaching by all those teachers, school staff, and students he worked with, taught, and hopefully inspired to be the best they can be
