Darrell Maurice Blizzard, 94, of Glenelg, MD died peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Lighthouse Assisted Living in Ellicott City. Born March 26, 1924 in Finksburg, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence John and Nellie Maude (Peeling) Blizzard. Darrell was a Quality Engineer for Bechtel Corporation in Gaithersburg, MD, retiring in 1994. He attended the Hershey Industrial School for boys during his youth. He was studying at Penn State University when he was drafted into military service. Darrell was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and served as a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II. He attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco following the war, where he earned a master's degree in engineering. He enjoyed gardening, reading the Wall Street Journal and mowing the lawn. He was an active member of the Milton Hershey Alumni Association, enjoying especially his adopted "granddaughters" at Student Home Eastmoor, and his annual Milton Hershey homecoming gatherings. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Darrell regularly attended the annual 381st Bomb Group Heavy, Triangle L reunions. He loved spending time with his grandsons, his family and his many old friends. Surviving are daughters, Jennifer Blizzard-Sisk and husband Bryan Sisk of Glenelg, and Jill Thomasson and husband Jim of Middletown, PA; son, Paul of Essex, MD; grandsons, Tristan Mitchell and Dustin Michael Sisk; sister, Dorothy Scott of Oxnard, CA; brother, C. Horace "Tony" Blizzard of Altus, AR; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Mark and John Blizzard. A memorial service to celebrate Darrell's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with the Rev. Judith A. Emerson officiating. Burial will follow at Krider's Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org or to the charity of one's choice. I met Darrell at Bechtel. I started there in Sept. 1972. Darrell was a gentleman and a fine man to work with. My sincere sympathy to Darrell's family.
