David N. Brown

David N. Brown was born February 4, 1938 in Springfield, Ohio to Roy E. and Mary D. (Scales) Brown.

He attended The Ohio State University, served in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge, and retired from Goodyear after 40 years of service. For 20 years David coached peewee and high school football and the St. Vincent girls' basketball team, winning two all-city division I championship titles.

David was a dedicated member of Unity Holiness Ministries (C.O.G.I.C.). He was kind to everyone, especially children, who adored him. David's life was well lived and he was truly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Reid; and brothers, Henry, Michael and Cornelius.

David leaves to cherish is memory, his devoted and loving wife, Bessie; daughter, Melissa "Mis'ce" of Columbia, Md.; sons, David, Kevin, and Devonte of Akron; sister, Shirley (Sylvester) Houston of Massillon, Ohio, Dorothy Jean (Carl) Ferguson of Austin, Texas; brothers, James R. (Patricia) Brown of Akron, Lt. Col. United States Retired Dr. Leo (Beverly) Brown of Denver, Colo.; Anthony (Yvette) Brown of Columbus, Ohio, Dwight (Mary) Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mardell Jones and Geraldine Manning of Akron, Ohio and Barbara Brown of Springfield, Ohio and Carolyn Brown of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at United Holiness Ministries COGIC, 1019 Harpster Ave., Akron, OH 44314, Supt. A. Carvan Smith Walker officiating. Funeral service will immediately follow. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320.
