David Carl Casteel

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David (Dave) Carl Casteel, a beloved father, grandfather, and pillar of the Livermore community. Born on March 1, 1956, in Missouri to Calvin and Rose Casteel, Dave spent his childhood in Sierra Vista, AZ, where he thrived as the class president during his senior year.

In the late 70s, Dave made Northern California his home and discovered a life-changing path in Alcoholics Anonymous. This year marked the beginning of a remarkable 41 years of sobriety, a testament to his strength and commitment. His dedication to the program became one of his greatest life works, impacting countless lives along the way.

A longtime Livermore resident, Dave's warm and welcoming spirit knew no bounds. He touched the lives of everyone he encountered, making genuine connections that turned strangers into friends. His infectious love and compassion were evident in every interaction. Dave was often spotted at many of our local eateries drinking iced tea, reading his tablet, or engaging in conversation with waitstaff.

Dave's legacy lives on through his two adoring children, David James Casteel and Jessica Lindsey Casteel, and their partners, Justine Jarvis and Chance Caudle. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Kenzi, Emmit, and Andie.

In 2012, Dave experienced a profound reunion that brought immeasurable joy to his life. He had the privilege of reconnecting with his biological daughter, who had been adopted, Jessica Going. This reunion added a beautiful chapter to his journey, and the bond they formed became a source of immense happiness and fulfillment.

In addition to his immediate family, Dave is survived by his siblings Steven Casteel, Robert Casteel, Susan Casteel Tinsley, and William Casteel. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lynn Bouscal Casteel, siblings Jimmy Casteel and Margaret Casteel Wells, as well as his parents, Calvin and Rose.

Beyond his family, Dave's absence will be deeply felt by the community he served with unwavering dedication. His impact resonates in the hearts of those who found solace and support through his commitment to sobriety and faith.

In honoring Dave's memory, let us remember the lessons of love, resilience, and compassion he shared with us all. May his spirit continue to inspire and uplift us in the face of this profound loss.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Crosswinds Church at 1pm on December 1st, 2023.
