My deepest heart felt sorrow to the parents of David, for no one knows the pain of loosing a child, and the only hope is that knowing that he is with his maker, and God will make him whole.
My Cumbie roots go deep from Va. where my grandmother was a Cumbie. I know we are kin, because David looks like the family there, and I miss them every day, but their memories live in my heart and mind, and yours will too.
May God give you the strength and comfort to endure.

Some years ago David called me for an English class assignment to interview an older person. Ended up he interviewed my father and I'll always remember how the two of them mutually enjoyed their interaction. David presented himself as a quality fellow with a strong and respectful acceptance of others. I learned that this quality feature ran family deep when Glen saved me from an in-ept contractor by doing work on my newly purchased home. As I met his mother, Linda, I saw more of the same polish: friendly, caring and the personality to make someone's life a little better or more complete. I was (and am) favorably impressed with this family....
And NOW, for this family how does one help mend the broken hearts or share the hurt and pain or give reason to go on day by day. I don't know..I can't BUT I know SOMEONE who can. For David's life we celebrate. For his loving family; we pray that our LORD will be the comforter, the deliverer and above all the provider of hope for each day and for the glorious reunion of ALL God's people.

My thoughts & prayers go out to David's family, friends, loved ones , & anyone who's life he touched. He was an amazing man & a great friend. He was always able to put a smile on anyone's face he was around. I was lucky to have known him & been able to call David my friend. It has been about a year since I last saw David, but I will carry his smile & his hug with me forever. I will continue to hold my head high & " work it, own it" very day even if I am not walking to the pencil sharpener in Coach Coxs class!! Love you David!!

February 11, 2015

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived.
At the end, whether you were beautiful or brilliant, male or female, even your skin color won't matter.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.
What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.
Choose to live a life that matters.
