David Lewis D'Avignon

David D’Avignon passed away February 3, 2023, in his home in Poolville, Texas.

David was born on December 14, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to Roy and Ann D’Avignon. He graduated from Jesuit High School and went on to Texas Tech University where he graduated with a business degree in 1970. David served in the United States Army immediately after college and held the rank of Captain upon his honorable discharge. He loved teaching the young recruits how to drive the tanks.

David took over his family’s business, Iron Craft Studio, Inc., and for over 40 years he made the most beautiful custom ornamental ironwork in all of Dallas. Better known as “The Iron Man, his work adorns some of the grandest homes in the area. No one knew better how to charm a Highland Park homeowner than David D’Avignon. After retirement, David began driving a school bus for Springtown ISD. “Mr. D” loved getting to see kids off to school everyday and the early morning route followed by a mid-morning nap was a perfect way to ease into retirement. David also tried his hand at substitute teaching in retirement - which he loved except for the time they assigned him the flower arranging class!

 While at Texas Tech, David met the love of his life - Marsha Branum D’Avignon. From the moment they met, they have been inseparable. They married on March 28, 1970 in DeLeon, Texas. Marsha joined David at the family business and for 53 years they spent all day together working and raising a family. Not many people can say they are with someone 24/7 and mean it, but they could - and they still held hands everywhere they went. They are a love story for the ages. When David had a stroke in 2015, Marsha dedicated her entire existence to taking care of him. Due solely to her fierce caregiving and his absolute stubbornness, David lived 8 years longer than the doctors thought he ever would. And he spent all eight of those years continuing to tell the very best stories and the funniest jokes.

David was the proud father of three children: Joey, Kim, and Andie. He could be counted on to be the loudest parent at the soccer game, to sell the most Camp Fire Candy in the entire area, and to give nicknames to every friend who ever crossed the threshold of the family home in Keller, Texas. He loved playing jokes on family members and will forever be remembered for the great IHOP credit card debacle of the early 80’s. David always had a dog by his side because he believed that everybody deserves to have a dog that loves them. He loved to read and knew more about WWII history than anyone really should. He loved Westerns and John Wayne and Gunsmoke.

David is survived by his wife Marsha; daughters Andie and Kim D’Avignon; and, son and daughter-in-law Joey and Jessica D’Avignon. He was from a big family and is survived by his brothers Joe, Johnny and Jimmy D’Avignon and his sisters Judy and Mary D’Avignon. He has a multitude of nieces and nephews and family friends that were more family than friends.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers that helped take care of David. Donations can be made in his honor to Camp El Tesoro de la Vida, the Springtown Public Library, or the Poolville Methodist Church.

David’s Celebration of Life will be held on February 10, 2023 at 2 pm at the Poolville Methodist Church.
