David Dunbar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 23, 2025.
David Dunbar, age 74, passed away Monday January 13, at his home, after a 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born October 12, 1950, in Seattle Washington, son of Horace and Bettie Dunbar.

Dave was a light in the lives of all who knew him. His journey on this earth was one marked by generosity, humor, and unwavering integrity. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who knew him.

David worked for the Seattle Times for 39 and a half years (and had been delivering their newspapers since the age of 12), and during retirement he volunteered at the White Center food bank for 20 years where he was awarded their first Volunteer of the Year award in 2019. He was also a board member at the Mountain River Trails campgrounds in Cle Elum.

Outside of work, Dave enjoyed socializing with friends and family, camping in Cle Elum, traveling to Mexican beaches, doing Vegas, playing bar trivia, cruising yard sales, exploring all genres of music, and watching the latest movies in theatres.

Those who knew Dave will remember him for his sharp wit, his free spirit, devotion to his work and his strong values. He had a gift for finding humor even in the darkest places.

Although we are no longer graced by Dave's physical presence, the memory of his fun loving spirit will continue to impact our lives. May we carry forth his legacy of living life to the fullest, by having good times with the people we care about.

David is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Black and Yolotzin Dunbar, his grandson Tyler Matthiesen, and his two brothers, Jerry and Brian Dunbar. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of David Loren Dunbar is yet TBD.

Remembrances may be made to the White Center Food Bank in his name.

I met David in 1961 when my family lived across the gully from the Dunbar family.I am the same age as Brian and we attended Fauntleroy Elementary.David was a kind and accepting 'older' brother type that I looked up to as a young boy.I remember one time David caught a gigantic cabezon under the ferry dock and all the kids were gathered around and marveling at it.David and my brother Bill were pals and we all experienced the magic that was the gully and the marine paradise under the ferry dock. Our family moved in 62 and I only saw David a couple times after that.It was a blessing to have known and looked up to David for that brief but important period of my life.
