BETHALTO — David Warren Forehand, 87, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on August 31, 1927 in Litchfield, Ill., the son of Wilbur and Garnet (Jackson) Forehand.

He married Virginia E. Rolando on January 14, 1950, at SS Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie. She survives.

Warren served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948 as a Seaman. He was a scrap metal inspector at Laclede Steel for 30 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. He was a die-hard Cubs fan, enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, watching all sports and most of all he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Larry Forehand of Rosewood Heights, Janice and Bob Andrews of Danville, Ill. and Donna and Paul Myer of Moro; five grandchildren, Amy and her husband, Andrew Weaver of Herrin, Ill., Julie Forehand of Herrin, Ill., Anthony Ritz of Wichita, Kans., Ryan Cooper of Ashville, N.C. and Andrew Myer of Moro; and three great-grandchildren, Katie Beth, Jake and Tessa Lynn Weaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy; and a sister, Betty Lee Forehand.

A Rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors given by Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School, Masses and The Power of the Giraffe.
