David Gabel Obituary
David
David Gabel, 77, of Fremont, died Monday night with his family by his side. He was born April 10, 1935, in Fremont the son of Roman and Ognet (Babione) Gabel Sr. He graduated from Jackson-Burgoon High School in 1953. He joined the US Marines right out of high school and was honorably discharged in 1955. Following serving his country, he married Mary Dudley Gabel at St. Mary's Church in Millersville, OH in 1959. David was co-owner of Gabel Brothers Construction for 25 years, later working at Carmeuse Lime in 1984,
retiring in 1997. Mr. Gabel was a member of St. Joseph Church for many years, mainly being active in the RCIA. He was a former member of the Fremont Elks Lodge #169 and Fremont American Legion. David loved watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and activities that they were involved in.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years, Mary Gabel of Fremont; children, Kevin (Jody) Gabel of Toledo, Todd (Ann) Gabel of Fremont, Mike (Susi) Gabel of Port Clinton, Amy (Tim) Tiell of Helena, Nick (Stacey) Gabel of Bowling Green, Beth (Tim Light) Gabel of Fremont; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandson, and anticipating the birth of another great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roman Gabel Jr. and Lewis Gabel, and sisters, Roseanne Wagner and Delene Gabel.
Calling hours will be Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Mary Wonderly, Dr. Jonathan Diller, and the entire nursing staff at Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. Online condolences may be left at www.kokm.net

Dear Mary Ruth and Family,
We send our most sincere condolences in the lose of Dave. We received a Christmas card from Jean and John Dudley that mentioned his passing and not being able to attend his service. I am sorry that I didn't know about your loss.
As a little girl, I remember being at Grandma and Grandpa Dudley's and he came over to pick you (Mary Ruth) up for a date. My mother and father were always so fond of Dave and that together you always had a lot of fun. My prayers are with you and for a brighter new year. Love, Jan Dudley Wilcox

It was one of my greatest pleasures getting to know Dave while he was at Valley View. He was a kind gentle soul. I feel very lucky to have met him.

Mary and family, last week I visited Dave in ICU twice, not responsive either time.
He has had a struggle over the years, now he is at total peace. We are in Canada vacationing, will catch up with you when we get home.

Mary and Family, I am so sorry about the passing of Dave. It has been many years since we have seen each other, but I think of the good old days quite often. I was hoping to see you and Dave this summer when I was at Barb's and our class reunion. I did get to see Ellen tho. Again, I am so sorry. My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Gabel Family. I have very fond memories of "Dave" while I was growing up in Fremont. I remember of being an altar server when he and my Aunt Mary Ruth were married at St. Mary's in Millersville. I also remember of he and I going pheasant hunting one cold Thanksgiving morning many years ago. He was a very kind person. He often stopped by to briefly visit my mother during her sadness after the passing of my father. He will be missed by all and despite their ability to win many games, the Browns and the Indians have lost a true fan.
