David Hoffman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 10, 2025.
David A. Hoffman, 82.

Born November 26, 1942 to Estelle and Ben Hoffman, Chicago Illinois. Beloved husband of 60 years to Barbara Hoffman. Cherished brother of Bruce Hoffman (Kitty). Blessed Father of Brian Hoffman (Melanie), Lisa Fishbein (Todd) and Devorah Sarah. Adored Grandfather of Talia Fishbein (Theo Reitwiesner, fiance), Kayla Fishbein, Sarah Fishbein, Emma Jo Fishbein, Joshua Hoffman, Samson Hoffman and Henry Hoffman. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and adored cousin to many.

Accomplished real estate developer, philanthropist and community leader, David's history of leadership began with the Von Steuben High School student council and The City of Chicago Citywide student councils where he was president of both. It continued into college where he was the president of the Bradley University student senate.

As president and then chairman of Red Seal Development Corp. he was noted for developing over 20% of the homes in Northbrook, Illinois as well as award winning communities in Highland Park, Illinois including Hybernia and The Town of Fort Sheridan. He was also an attorney of note, practicing Law at Rudnick and Wolfe (now DLA Piper) with his mentor and long time friend Perry J. Snyderman.

Active in his civic and communal life, he was the chair of the Highland Park, Illinois Housing Commission, president of the Fairway Point condo association at Boca West. He was particularly honored to serve as president of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Metropolitan Chicago.

Among his many awards were the Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Congress and the Heschel award from the Solomon Schechter Day School of Metropolitan Chicago.

David was a larger-than-life figure with thousands of delighted homeowners living in the homes he built and a legacy of great works in his wake.

While his accomplishments, successes and accolades in the public arena were numerable and remarkable, in his personal life, his commitment to and love for his family was extraordinary and foundational. David was a deeply devoted, loving, and generous, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He also had a deep love and passion for Spirituality and Judaism. Jewish learning and practice were an integral and fundamental part of his life.

He passed away June 10th, 2025, surrounded by loving family in Highland Park, Illinois.

A few years ago, we were lucky enough to interview Mr. Hoffman for a marketing video on behalf of Red Seal Homes. He was engaging, kind and still excited about his life's work. We were struck by his passion for helping people get into one of his homes not for profit, but for the foundation of building a family and becoming a part of a community. David also cared deeply about his employees, he considered them part of the extended Red Seal Family He was clearly a man of integrity and vision. He will be missed by all.
