David Lee Hogan
03/15/1957 - 09/01/2018
David Lee Hogan, 61, went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 1, 2018. He was born March 15, 1957, in Daytona Beach, Florida. David is predeceased by his father (Herschel). He is survived by his wife Lily Feliciano-Hogan of Boynton Beach, FL; children, Lee of Los Angeles, CA, Amber of Montgomery, AL, mother, Wathena of Deland, FL, two brothers, Bob (Debbie) of Deland, FL, and Ric (Nikki) of Daytona Beach, FL, and niece Taylor. David graduated Deland High School in 1975. He was an outstanding athlete there lettering in football, track, and wrestling. He earned a football scholarship to Troy University in Alabama. On October 21, 2016 he was inducted into the DHS Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in athletics. After graduating from Troy, David worked in the fitness business. In 1986, he founded Hogan's Gym in Montgomery, Al. He sold the gym years later but the name, gym, and legacy still remains. He moved back to Florida in 2011 and started Junk Boys a demolition and junk removal service in 2016 with his wife Lily. David loved being competitive and outdoors. His favorite hobby was cycling when not spending time on the beach with his wife. Even in his sixties, he would average cycling 200 miles a week. He loved mentoring or coaching young kids. He wanted young people to know that you have to work hard for all things in life and to never give up when obstacles come your way. He was constantly looking out for those less fortunate, offering them jobs, motivation, or just some beloved humor. He never met a stranger and always brought a smile to your face. All who knew him would agree that he loved his wife Lily, he was proud of his children Lee and Amber, and was the best son and brother he knew to be. Memorial celebration will be held at the home of Wathena Hogan (mother) in Deland, Florida on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 am. Friends are welcome to join the family in celebrating the life of David Hogan.

Knew David at Troy, am floored to hear of his passing. Had a lot of really good laughs together, chow hall, rugby, social events. Solid guy, stedfast, positive, all around good person. My condolences to all who were close to him.

I just learned of his passing and am saddened to hear this. This guy taught me a lot that helped me in The Army. He opened his new gym in 1998 and I started then. He really believed helping people get healthy and fit, above profit. He pushed me to try harder and be better. I am glad he was an influence on me and I took his words to share with others. He was a great guy and mentor.

I just learned today that David had died. It's really weird as he had been on my mind the last week. i trained with David for a few years at MAC and was his first member when he opened Hogan's Gym. I still workout there, but now to help fight Parkinson's. David was a sweet man and always had his infectious smile on his face. He will be missed by a lot of people. My heart felt feeling go to his family.

David and I played football together at Troy State. David was a great friend, had a tremendous sense of humor and could always find the bright, positive side of any situation. His life was an example of hard work, perseverance and he left this world a better place with his life as an example. David was a good man; my heartfelt sympathy to his family.

Hogan and I go back to the summer of 1975 when we both attend Troy freshman orientation. We shared many classes together and many fun times. We reconnected 4 years ago at a Troy football game and talked several time a year. He checked on me a lot in the past year (after my bypass surgery)....encouraging me with positive reinforcement and his crazy humor! For this, I will be forever grateful! David was a great football player, classmate, and friend. He will be missed and remembered by all of his fellow Trojans!

David was a great guy and I knew him when he opened Hogan's Gym. He talked me into getting certified as a step - aerobics instructor there , and I did and taught for 11 years. He was a lot of fun and a serious business man. We will miss him.

I knew David as a runner and business owner, met him in the 80's. One of the nicest people I ever met. He beat me in Brand new shoes in the Jubilee 10k, passing me in the last 2 miles. I know he rests at peace, My condolences to his family.
