08/18/1970 - 05/05/2025
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, David, who left this world on May 5, 2025. He was surrounded by his parents, sister, and life partner, Deirdre Kopta. Dave brought love, joy and light into our lives, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dave was born on August 18, 1970. He graduated from Zion Benton High School. He grew up playing baseball, football and hockey while in high school and also was involved in local traveling teams. He missed many family vacations due to his dedication to summer baseball and stayed with Coach Anthony.
Dave, his brother James and nephew Camden would play Wiffle Ball every time the three of them were together. Dave grew up with cats, dogs, kittens and puppies and once he moved out on his own, he always had a love for cats; Jordy and Poppy were considered HIS cats, but they also had Claudia, Bamboo and Checks whom he loved. A few have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and were waiting for Dave's arrival to get their belly rubs.
Dave and Deirdre moved to
Fort Myers, Florida in the fall of 2006. He would fly home, usually twice a year, so he could go camping with us at the family property near New Auburn, WI. He enjoyed cutting the grass on the riding lawnmower and going fishing with his dad. He would build the evening campfire and make smores while telling us funny stories of customers he dealt with at work. He was quick-witted and had a funny comeback about everything. He always volunteered to help his dad with all the projects he had going on at the time of a visit. Dave had the biggest heart of all and would help anyone he could. He fixed Laura's A/C in her car as he didn't want her driving in the summer heat without it. Once he moved to Florida, he would keep bottles of water and crackers in his vehicle to give to homeless individuals on street corners.
Dave and Deirdre would usually take two cruises a year to all the different Caribbean islands and road trips to many different beaches all over Florida. Dave and Deirdre's last cruise was in April 2025 with his buddy, John Austin and his fiancé, Monica Devi. He would always catch a Minnesota Vikings game when they played in Florida. The Vikings have been Dave's team since he was around 4 years old, he always had to watch Fran Tarkenton play. He also loved the Chicago Cubs and would try to catch a game whenever he was here.
Dave left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. Whether it was working with his Grandpa Bergeron or at his job as Dispatcher at RSW Airport training new hires, he touched lives in ways words cannot fully convey. He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
Dave is survived by his parents, Dave and Kathy Larson; his partner of 25 years, Deirdre Kopta; his sister Laura (Joe) Beatty; Niece's, Mariah Larson, Kaylee and Morgan Beatty; Nephew's, Alec and Camden Beatty; a very special friend, John Austin; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who will carry forward his love and legacy. We find comfort in the thought that his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts.
Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Vivian Larson; Bill and Lillian Bergeron; his brother, James and his uncle, Michael Bergeron.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on July 20, 2025, starting at 1:00 pm at Grace Church, in the Sanctuary at 1415 27th Street, Zion, IL. Luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gulf Coast Humane Society, Animal (Cat) Shelter at
gulfcoasthumanesociety.org in his honor.
Dave's ashes will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL at a later date with family only.
