David E. Mayo, age 73 of Sparta, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at his home in Sparta, Michigan. David was born on April 18, 1950 in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of John and Bernice Mayo. He graduated Mona Shores High School in 1968 and Grand Valley State University in 1972. David worked as a medical technologist for several decades in West Michigan, including over 30 years at Blodgett Hospital. David is survived by his wife Joyce Mayo; his son, Jon (Tracey) Mayo; his daughter Becky Mayo; his sisters, Dr. Linda Mayo and Donna (Darrin McSorley) Mayo; his sisters-in-law, Cherry Bowers and Janice Entsminger; and his nephew, Chris Bowers and family. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Entsminger. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the North Ridge Funeral Home in Sparta, Michigan. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 17 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm prior to the service at North Ridge Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Wolverine Skyhawks Model Aviation Club at www.wolverineskyhawks.com

Dear Joyce, Rebecca & Jonathan,
I am just now learning of David's passing.
My heart goes out to you.
I have such fond memories of babysitting for you , even living with you as a teenager for a couple of months.
Joyce, I still can't believe you entrusted me with the care of your beautiful children, who I adored.
I remember your dog "Whickey"- which was how Jonathan pronounced it.
I remember you letting me drive your van (without brakes!) & how I knew how to coast from the hill on Division, riding the breaks until it would stop at the "little store".
I remember the big glass jar on your counter of your homemade cookies, how you taught me to make a grocery list, go grocery shopping & prepare stuffed porkchops for my boyfriend & although you did most of the work, allowed me to take credit.
You & David were so kind to me.
I recall seeing Becca again when she was a teenager using her keyboard to communicate & it filled me with joy.
40yrs have passed since I moved from Michigan, but the times you all have crossed my mind have been endless.
God bless & keep you all.
12yrs ago, my husband (of 16yrs) & I adopted 3 children with special needs , who are now 17,18 & 19. My experience caring for Becca gave me the fortitude to realize I was capable of the challenge.
We live in Kansas..in the tiny town of HOPE.
