David Muir Obituary

David Drummond Muir (1957-2024)

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of David Drummond Muir, 67, of Prince Edward County, Ontario at Belleville General Hospital on June 26, 2024.

David was born in Montreal, Québec to Ken and Mary-Helen Muir, the youngest of three children. He attended Cedar Park Elementary School, John Rennie and Lindsay Place High Schools. In his youth he developed a love for figure skating; competing and winning many local and provincial awards. After high school, he went on to study interior design but ultimately chose to pursue his passion for figure skating. David became a coach and mentored many young skaters at the Pointe-Claire Figure Skating Club, Montreal's West Island and at the Granite Club, Toronto. He later went on to skate professionally, travelling the world for many years with Disney World On Ice and ultimately became a show director before retiring. His favourite character to play was Goofy and he spoke fondly of his time skating in Japan. David often reflected on his time in figure skating and was most proud of being able to mentor young skaters and share his passion for the sport. He went on to work for Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers and spent many fulfilling years working there alongside his partner, auctioneer, Robert Parks.

David and Robert lived for many years in The Gay Village community in Toronto before he relocated to Prince Edward County after Robert's death. Like his father, David was a tinkerer who could often be found at a workbench. He was meticulously organized and enjoyed design, art, architecture, and cars. The family cottage in L'Île Cadieux, Québec was a refuge and happy place for him over his lifetime. A large boulder on the shoreline overlooking the lake is lovingly referred to as 'David's Rock' by the family.

He is preceded in death by his long-time partner, Robert Charles Parks, and his parents Mary-Helen and Kenneth Muir. He is survived by his partner Scott Moodie, siblings Brian Muir (Susan), and Beverly Hallman, and nieces and nephews Jennifer Pedder (Christian), Victoria Muir-Burcea (Cristian), Jamie Muir (Carissa), Scott Hallman and Laura Hallman (Ryan Bennett), and great nephew and niece Sebastian and Sadie. He is also fondly remembered by the Parks family; Sarah Rousseau of Toronto and Christopher and Angie Parks of England.

Internment will occur at Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal at a later date. The family would like to thank his friend Doug for the support and care he provided for David at the end of his life.

Donations can be made to the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation.

Dear Brian, Bev and families, I was so sorry to hear that David had died. Such a lovely tribute to him and some great photos leaving me wanting to see more! I have so many wonderful memories of David and all of your family from Pointe Claire and Ille Cadieau. Robert and David visited my Mom and me in Oakville one time probably 20 years or more ago and we had such a great time! I remember bumping into David when he was working at Simpson´s (?) Eaton´s (?) one time in Toronto many years before that and we had such a great laugh. We were so fortunate to grow up when and where we did and I treasure (as I know my Mom (and Dad) did too, our great neighbours the Muirs! I hope you and your families are all well.
Lots of love, Jane Currah
