David Mysak

David Alexander Mysak 1946 2011 David Alexander Mysak died suddenly on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the age of 64. He is predeceased by his father, Walter Mysak and survived by his mother Bernice, wife Sonia (Harasym) of Saskatoon, daughter Tania (Mark Makowsky) of Edmonton, son Michael (Loretta Lefenko) of Calgary and daughter Kristen of Saskatoon and grandchildren Magda and Jonah Mysak of Calgary and Toma and Katya Makowsky of Edmonton. Also survived by his two sisters Donna (Tony) Dagnone of London, ON and Marlene (Brian Goin) of Calgary; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. David was born August 14, 1946 in Canora, SK. Raised in Canora he graduated from Canora Composite High School in 1964. He then moved to Saskatoon, staying at Mohyla Institute and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 1969. It was at Mohyla Institute where David met many of his life long friends, including his wife and life partner Sonia (Harasym). David and Sonia were married in 1971 and started their life together in Burnaby, BC before moving to Saskatoon in 1974. They raised their family in Saskatoon and David continued his career at Federated Co-op in Human Resources, a career that was to last 37 years. David was committed to his family and his community. He gave generously of his time and energy to numerous community groups including the River Heights Community Association, Vesna Festival, Yevshan Dancers, Persephone Theatre, Folkfest, All Saint's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Parish Bratsvo (Brotherhood), Mohyla Institute, Ukrainian Professional Business Association, Ilarion Residence and others. David was also a long time supporter of organ donation and his last gift will allow others a new start for full lives. David lived a full life and pursued many hobbies including travel, fishing, trying new recipes on the barbeque, wine-making (and drinking) with friends, slide photography (and then showing those shows to family and friends), progressive suppers with his Skeena Court crew, time with family (particularly playing with his grandchildren) and spending time at the family cottage at Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada ( www.heartandstroke.sk.ca ), the Taras Shevchenko Foundation ( www.shevchenkofoundation.com ), or the Ukrainian Museum of Canada ( www.umc.sk.ca ). A Prayer Service for David will held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 7:00 PM with the Funeral Service Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church (2616 Louise St), officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Demczuk. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens (Orthodox Section).
