David Oswald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2025.
David's dance of life on earth ended unexpectedly in late August 2025. He was born in Grand Rapids on February 13, 1957, and was lovingly adopted by his parents, Elmer ("Butch") and Mary Ann Oswald, in May 1959.

David served in the U.S. Army and followed in the trade of his dad, becoming a master electrician and earned an associate's degree from Delta College. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

David was a long-standing member of the Lansing Jug and Mug Ski Club, where he found many lifelong friends and family. He was an avid skier, unofficial photographer, and skilled dancer. He participated in several activities through various groups, where he drew many friends with his smile and charismatic personality.

David's greatest gift was his ability to make others laugh. He believed that humor connected people, and he shared that spirit generously.

He is survived by his sons, Keith and Brian (Ashley) Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Keely and Kyle Kirkpatrick, Trevor Kirkpatrick, and Aubrey Lane; sisters, Sandra Oswald and Cheryl (Robert) Most; nephews, Chad (Sarah) Hemingway and Jeremy Hemingway; nephew and godchild, Mike Most; and niece, Amoreena Most. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Ann Oswald.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends in the Bay City area will be held on Saturday, September 20, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at The Otherside Bar and Grill, 8301 Midland Rd, Freeland, MI 48623.

So sorry of the passing of Dave. I didn´t know David well but he lived on my street. He was a great neighbor. He also installed an outlet in my garage for me. I wish he had a little more time so I could´ve enjoyed his sense of humor. But now Heaven is a better place because of you. Rest on neighbor.

I met Dave before I went in the army. We went and enlisted together on the body system, and have been friends ever cents. That is 52 years that I have known Dave and we have always stayed in touch. Dave was in my first two weddings as best man, and officiated my third wedding. We have always stayed in touch, and I will certainly miss his sense of humor and his laugh. Rest in peace, my friend.
