David C. Riehl, age 62, resident of Shelby died unexpectedly Monday, December 24, 2012 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital. Born May 13, 1950 in Fremont to Charles and Sussane (Craig) Riehl, he graduated from Clyde High School in 1968, received several associates degrees from Terra Community College in Fremont, and in 1983, received his bachelors degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Franklin University in Columbus. A Shelby resident since 1978, Dave retired from PPG Industries in Crestline and was currently self-employed. He was an active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a Third Degree Knight in the K of C, and member of Couple to Couple League, where he and his wife were instructors for over 20 years. Serving in the U.S. Army, he was proud of his country and appreciated all who had served. David was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed anything having to do with electronics or computers and was known as a man who could fix anything. He enjoyed family and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Surviving are his wife, Donna (Young) Riehl, with whom he celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on November 11th; his three children, Todd (Jessica) Riehl of Belmont, California; Elaine (John) Zang of Sandusky and Holly Plazek of Shelby; three grandchildren, Cole Zang, Zoe Riehl and Sarah Plazek; his father, Charles Riehl of Green Springs, Ohio; nine siblings, Donald Riehl of Fremont, Diane Burr of Bellevue, Theresa Miller of Kansas, Ohio, Rita Hoffman of Green Springs, Michael Riehl of Clyde, Mary Brock of Farmington Hill, Michigan, Mark Riehl of Onondaga, Michigan, Matthew Riehl of Green Springs and Craig Riehl of Fremont, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Riehl, his mother, Sussane Riehl and his brother, John Riehl. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church with Father Nicholas Cunningham and Deacon Steven Keller officiating. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 where the scripture services will be conducted at 3:45PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with the rosary being recited at 7:45PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the St. Mary's School, 26 West St., Shelby, Ohio 44875.
