David Daniel Scoggins, JR Mr. Scoggins, 80, of Charlotte died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at White Oak Manor. Services to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 17th at Carmel Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. William Katibah and The Reverend Steve Cathcart officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Scoggins was born April 9, 1928 in High Point, NC to the late David Daniel and Fanny Lou Teague Scoggins. He attended schools in North Carolina before entering the United States Navy on March 19, 1946. Mr. Scoggins served as an Airman on the USS Norton Sound until his Honorable Discharge on August 9, 1953. His career as an independent food broker in the Carolinas spanned over 45 years until his retirement in 1980. On June 21, 1976 he married Lucy Love Dickerson in Wilmington, NC. They were members of Carmel Presbyterian Church. Mr. Scoggins will be remembered most by friends and family as a devoted son and father. Mr. Scoggins, the youngest of 6 children was predeceased by his five sisters, Eula, Thelma, Grace, Mildred and Ruth. In addition to his wife Lucy of Charlotte, Mr. Scoggins is survived by his children, David Dobarzynski of Columbus, GA, Sharon S. Ward and husband Richard of Midland, Craig Scoggins and wife Robin of Archdale, Susan S. Blalock and husband Bobby of Morganton, Eric Scoggins and wife Patricia of Charlotte, NC; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Mr. Scoggins is also survived by his devoted friend, Walter Cain who cared for both he and Lucy during his illness. The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor and Hospice at Charlotte for their care for Mr. Scoggins over the last year. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials in honor or Mr. Scoggins be made to White Oak Manor, 4009 Craig Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28211 or to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service, Matthews / Weddington Chapel.
