David Shanda Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2025.
David Wayman Shanda 62, of Malaga was a man of extraordinary warmth and love who will be remembered for his giving spirit by those he touched throughout his life. It was this endearing warmth and unshakable character that led him to a long and fulfilling career developing relationships with others and making many lifelong friends along the way. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who always put his family before himself. David returned to the House of the Lord in the early hours of Friday, July 18th, 2025.

David was born to Wayne and Bonnie Jean Shanda in Wenatchee, Washington on February 4th, 1963. David spent the early years of his childhood in Waterville, WA with his two older sisters Dianne Laree and Suanne, where he participated in the Boy Scouts and 4H before moving with his family to Wenatchee Washington. While attending Wenatchee High School he participated in football as well as track & field. Upon graduation he furthered his education at Washington State University where he developed his lifelong love and support for the Cougars.

He started his career at Knutson Lumber, followed by Huttig Building Products, and finally Woodgrain working in sales and leadership in building material distribution. He was a service driven individual who greatly enjoyed meeting new people and cherished his role in supporting others.

In 1988 he married the love of his life Jill Shanda (Jewell) of East Wenatchee and enjoyed a wonderful marriage with her for 37 years. They had a family together and settled down in Lacey, Washington where they split their time between their home in Lacey, and their childhood home in Wenatchee.

Of his life's accomplishments, David was most proud to be a father to his two sons, Kyle and Taylor, and later in life, becoming a grandparent to his grandson Joseph.

In his free time, David could be found venturing with his good friends in their Jeeps, vacationing lakeside in Chelan, playing a round of golf, solving the world's problems at the breakfast table, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his selflessness, dry wit, and warm smile.

David was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie Jean (2011), and his father Wayne (2014). He is survived by his wife Jill Shanda, his children Kyle Shanda and Taylor Shanda (Taylor), sisters Dianne Laree Shanda (Christy) and Suanne Robbins (Steve), and one Grandson Joseph Shanda.

The family would like to extend a thank you to those that have provided support, including loved ones, friends, and David's industry associates. The outpouring of love and stories about David that have been received have been a comfort during this time of mourning.

I worked in the Huttig STL office and when I had a vendor question related to the Auburn branch( which was not often) Dave was always quick to take my call, listen and provide a solution. A tremendously nice man who I remember fondly. My sincere condolences to Dave´s family. Sheryl Munz

Jill, Tyson and Taylor, David always spoke so highly of you all. He truly loved you. We often shared stories about our families; he would grin, then full smile, with twinkle in his eyes. He was so positive and full of joy. He will be missed. Love Matt and Michelle
