Father Shaw was a really wonderful pastor. He was very kind and considerate of all his parishioners. He made good jokes during the homily sometimes. His organ playing really added to the wonderful choir and orchestra family that is Resurrection.
I am such a long time parishioner that I even remember the banter between himself an Fr Larry Carolen. The 49ers!

He was one in a million. His parish is the only parish that my husband and kids looked forward to attending.

Father Shaw,
You were a force of nature, a refreshing breeze with your beliefs and desire to make Resurrection Parish a truly welcoming church. I have attended so many churches where the congregation did not talk to one another. The parishioners at Resurrection like one another and catch up with one another before Mass. Your solution to a complaint that the talking was disrespectful to the Host was to move the Host to the chapel. You informed so much of my faith and I am very thankful that you were a large part of my faith journey. I’m sure you’re resting in the arms of Our Lord.

Fr. Shaw will be greatly missed. May our hearts be at ease knowing he has returned to our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Our family joined the Resurrection community when our teen-aged daughters said they wanted to continue going to Mass, but couldn’t be a part of our parish at the time. Their concern was that certain priests were espousing rhetoric that was divisive and intolerant, and overtly not Christian. My husband and I were brought up short! We would have continued where we were, ignoring the obvious, though complaining to ourselves, but these young women made us realize what was important. Our Church is about community, and community is welcoming and loving. We found all of that at Resurrection, in the parishioners and in David Shaw. He was a teacher. He was a friend. He was a companion on the journey. He was a gift. We are blessed he touched our lives.

Father David was a classmate of mine from Saint John’s seminary in Camarillo California. I have wonderful memories of his friendship and his ability to entertain us as students during our four years together at Saint John’s seminary. I pray the Lord will watch over him and take good care of him now. good and faithful servant. You fought the good fight You ran the race and you kept the faith. Father KIDNEY.

I love you so much. My last prayers to God were to carry you in His arms peacefully to Heaven, and put you in the arms of mom and dad.
I believe my prayers were answered.
