David "Dave" P. Stake

MANSFIELD: David "Dave" P. Stake, 70, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born to Raymond and Dorothy (Sprang) Stake on November 13, 1945 in Ashland, Ohio.

Dave grew up in Mansfield where he graduated from Mansfield Sr. High in 1963. After graduating he went to work at Mansfield Tire and later worked for Peabody Barnes where he retired in 2009 as an engineer. Dave was a member of the Elks, where he served as treasurer.

Dave was a devoted Christian. He was caring, compassionate and always put everyone before himself. He absolutely loved sports. Dave followed all the teams in Ohio. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, and softball.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Sherry (Zellner) Stake, whom he married on August 2, 1975; brother, Ron (Carol) Stake; sister, Janice Markel; sister-in-law, Mary Stake; numerous nieces and nephews; uncle, Bernard Sprang.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Les Stake.

Visitation for Dave will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 from 5:00- 8:00 pm at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. The services will be Saturday August 6, 2016 at 10:00 am also at the Diamond Street Home. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park. Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Sunday afternoons will never be the same for us. We will miss Dave very much. He was a wise man with a kind heart and quiet strength who earned our respect.
