On Sunday, October 16th, 2022, Dave Sweet, beloved son and brother, passed away at age 70, on Hilton Head Island, SC

Dave began his journey in Johnson City, NY and grew up in Chenango Bridge. Dave played basketball, football and ran cross country for Chenango Valley Warriors but more importantly focused on having a full-of-friends life and a keen eye for beauty.

Sweeter went on to play hoops at Onondaga Community College, then on to Brockport State, followed by a teaching/coaching position at Sidney Central School system for a number of years. In 1987, another direction....Hilton Head Island.....for 35 years of various employment opportunities but touching everyone in a special way. Dave retained a special passion for Syracuse basketball and The Boeheims!

Dave's greatest passion was family and friends. He had a gift of engaging people and those that met him were touched by his outgoing and welcoming acceptance. It was important to him to stay in touch with all of his friends and family...a remarkable trait, and we will all miss Sweeter....

David was preceded in death by his father, Barrie. He is survived by his mother, Jane, brother Bud (Karen), nephew Barrett, Uncle Dude (Catherine) and numerous cousins. Dave is also survived by his longtime companion, dearest Kim.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family thanks all who have reached out and wishes them to know how special they were to David.

It might be years in between phone conversations with Sweeter, but any time he called, the chat would resume as if we had spoke earlier in the same day. He could see humor in almost any topic. He is sadly missed.

Oh Dave, I will miss your calls and the YouTubes that you've been sending me. I had a crush on you starting in 6th grade, Mr. Anthony's class. God is blessed to have you at his side. You had such a loving heart and zest for life!

I was friendly with Dave throughout school. He was always a nice guy who lit up a room when he entered it. He was always kind and funny, never hurtful, and definitely one of the 'popular' kids. That didn't matter to him though, he would still be friendly with everyone. My sincere condolences go out to his family; I know he will be greatly missed.

I knew David a little bit back in high school rooting him on. He was a incredible guy who once he said hello to you he never forgot your name. My friend Jonathan who was close with David always lit up when talking about "Sweeter" . And the tribute by his fellow classmate Jack, cleared out my tearducts. God gives us special people that make the world around us a much better place. And Dave was one of them. Peace and comfort to the Sweet family and extended families.

My most vivid memory of Dave was his kind and welcoming nature. He was one of the "in" kids, but he never treated anyone as an outsider.
