David Tappan

DAVID TAPPAN David Tappan, November 1948 - September 22, 2018, leaves behind wife Susan, son Cody, daughter Kellie, and sister Mary. Born in Binghamton, NY, and moved to Bay Area while in high school, he took to surfing and played flag football with friends. Living in Humboldt since 1976, he liked to golf, being particularly good at hitting trees. Dave was an Army veteran, serving from 1968 to 1973. In Vietnam he was nicknamed 'Soup' because his mother sent cases of tomato soup. He returned to live in Oakland, attended JC, and worked as a machinist, while living the California hippie life. He met Susan and they were together for 46 years of wacky misadventures with camping trips, softball games, family pets, vacations, and raising two children, living a life full of hilariously dumb stories. As with any loss, words cannot begin to adequately capture Dave's laid back and jovial personality. The world seemed a bit brighter when he was around. You'd be hard pressed not to crack a smile at even his cheesiest jokes and his infectious laughter. He was the kind of guy to always go out of his way to say hello. Dave was a full time stay-at-home father, 'Mr. Mom'. He was our gardener, landscaper, mechanic, chauffeur, cook, cleaner... and he never let us forget a jacket. We were never going to be ready for your passing dad. Our hearts are broken. You are gone but never forgotten. To us you were the 'World's Best Dad'. We love you.
