Col. David L. Tawater USAF, Ret.

Col. David L. Tawater, USAF, Ret. age 83, passed on Sunday, Nov 18, 2018 in San Antonio. Born Dec 17, 1934 in Houston, Texas to Paul and Hattie Tawater. He received a bachelor's degree in Business from Louisiana Tech before being commissioned into the U.S. Air Force. He flew the KC-97, KC-135 and B-58, prior to going to Vietnam. He served in SE Asia as a forward air controller flying O-2s assigned to the Army 5th Special Forces outside of Vietnam, completing over 125 combat missions. He attended the Armed Forces Staff College and was assigned to SAC Hdq. In 1974. He served as Squadron Commander at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. He attended the National War College and then was assigned to Kelly AFB, Texas where he retired after 22 ½ yrs. After retiring, David enjoyed various positions in commercial real estate and insurance in San Antonio. He enjoyed traveling, golf, cigars, and was a member of Community Bible Church of San Antonio. David is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Debra, David and Kevin; 8 grandchildren, and his cat "Spurs". The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
