David F. Van Hoy passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023 at his home in Sarasota Fl.
He was born to Ralph C. & Florence (Flo) Van Hoy on May 31, 1937 and started his life in Martinsville, IN. His family moved to Spiceland in 1943 where he attended Spiceland grade school and graduated in 1955. In high school he played basketball, baseball and ran track. After graduation he attended Purdue and graduated in 1959 with a degree in General Ag.
David was a MP in the Army Reserve from 1960-1966 and received a honorable discharge.
He began working for Standard Oil as a jobber on May 7, 1961. Later years he began Van Hoy Oil Co. in Knightstown and worked until he retired and sold the business to his son Jeff.
David was a lifetime member of the Knightstown Optimist Club. Also, a member of the First Christian Church, Spiceland Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, Henry Co. Shrine Club, Knightstown York Rite and Community Drill Team and several tractor clubs.
David enjoyed collecting and showing John Deere 2-cylinder tractors, traveling, meeting and talking to people, playing his organ and reading western books. He especially enjoyed attending his class reunions.
He is survived by his wife Earlene, sons Jeff (Susan) Van Hoy and Scott Van Hoy (Jessica Plank). Two grandsons Jeffrey (Monica) Van Hoy and Jordan (Shelby) Van Hoy.
Two great-children Adalynn Mae and Andrew Michael Van Hoy. Also Sandra Van Hoy the mother of his sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven Lee and great-grandson Jarren David.
Per his request there will be no service. The family will have a private celebration of life.
