Deborah (Debbie) O'Malley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 24, 2024.
Deborah (Debbie) Ann O'Malley, 73, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Beverly, MA. She was born on March 23, 1949, in Clinton, MA, and was the daughter of Arthur and Madelyn O'Malley. Debbie leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and inspiration to all who knew her.

Debbie was a devout Christian and an active member of the Gloucester Assembly of God Church. She dedicated her time to various charitable organizations, including the Agape Center and Cafe in Acton and Hudson, the Sandy Bay Historical Society, and the Rockport Information Booth. Debbie was also a generous supporter and donor to Action, Inc. of Gloucester and sponsored a family each Christmas.

In her professional life, Debbie pursued a career in nursing. She began as a Candy Striper at Clinton Hospital during high school and continued working there as a nurse after graduation. She also spent a year in Denmark as a nurse in a long-term care facility. Debbie completed her nursing career at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. Her dedication to caring for others was evident throughout her life.

Debbie's hobbies included gardening, crafts, and needlework. She had a talent for creating beautiful crafts, many of which she gifted to family, friends, and those in need. Her quick laughter and ability to find joy in life, even in challenging times, endeared her to those around her.

Debbie will be deeply missed by her surviving siblings: brother John O'Malley and his wife Nan of Clinton, MA; sisters Kate Kirby of Elk Grove, CA, Maddie McNally and her husband Paul of Clinton, MA, and Jackie O'Malley-Gomez and her husband Paul of Orangevale, CA. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including her cousin Carolyn Paskavitz and her husband Ron, and their children and grandchildren. Although Debbie never married, she found love and support from the Paskavitz family, with whom she lived since 1978.

A Celebration of Life for Debbie will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Pigeon Cove Circle, located at 6 Breakwater Avenue, Rockport, MA. The family kindly requests that the limited parking lot be saved for handicap access and encourages street parking for other attendees. Casual attire is appropriate for the event.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Debbie's memory to the following organizations: the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org), the Salvation Army (give.salvationarmyusa.org), or the Gloucester Assembly of God (gloucesterassembly.org, 978-283-1736).

Debbie's generosity, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace and be embraced by her Heavenly Father.

Oh Nan. I miss your bright smile and your genuine kindness. You were my favorite person to talk to about everything. Your positive outlook on life and understanding of The Lord's commands made listening to you a treasure. You were always like a mother to me. Always gentle, never judgmental and had an open minds to any conversation.

I've been having so many memories of you pop into my mind since you passed. Many years ago when Johnny still lived with you guys in Hudson we were all in the living room. You had gotten an email that said ask the younger generation these questions and see what they say. The first question you asked was "what is a BM?" When I answered with an unsure tone "a computer" You and Johnny were laughing so hard that you were both in tears. It made me smile and I'm grateful for the memories I have with you. I know you're comfortable and happy so that makes me happy. I just really miss being able to talk to you and hug you and feel your positive presence when I'd come to see you. I've had many crochet questions that I've wanted to ask you and many beautiful projects I've wanted to show you. Thank you for everything you did for me Nan. You are one of the main people that, had you not been in my life, it would have turned out much differently. I'm forever grateful God gave me the time he did with you. I love you Nan. I can't wait to see you again!
