Deborah Garnett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, 2023.
Debi Gifford Garnett, a lover of life and shining light to all who knew her, reached the end of a decade-long battle with mesothelioma on February 13, 2023. Her final days were peacefully spent surrounded by the loving company of her immediate family and dearest friends. Debi lived a full and inspired life, graced many theatrical stages, hosted unforgettable parties, devoted herself to her children and grandchildren, delighted in countless Naples sunsets, and always spread sunshine wherever she went.

The warmth of Debi's smile and generosity of spirit brightened everyone's lives. Sharing love and laughter was her innate gift. She was an artist, avid lover of art, and patron of the arts. As a devoted lifetime member of the Naples Players, Debi supported and appeared in countless productions; always adding her own special flair and humor. Debi was an exceptional hostess, with impeccable taste and a creative eye for detail, who curated many memorable gatherings to celebrate the people she adored. Chatham held a special place in her heart and the summers spent there with friends and family were cherished memories. Her passion for living life to the fullest and treating everyone around her with genuine kindness will forever be an inspiration.

Though originally from Columbus, Ohio, Debi called Naples home. She built a beautiful life and strong community here: raised her children Erin and Ryan, she owned Sunday Sunset on 5th Avenue in the late 70's, was the director of a non-profit that provided after school care for many of the schools in the district, was a caterer and event planner, and nurtured lifelong friendships. To know Debi was to love her and she was loved by many: a dedicated wife to her beloved Robert; a treasured Nana to Logan, Sawyer, Harper and a surrogate grandmother to Aria; a loyal sister to John and his wife Cheryl; a loving Aunt to Jeni and Amy, and great Aunt to Drew. Debi's memory will be upheld and honored through the special connections and traditions she created with her family -- the joy of bringing everyone together at a table to enjoy delicious food, the delight of a fancy tea party, the laughter of good fun with just the right amount of silliness mixed in and the appreciation for quality time spent with the people you love.

While Debi's presence will be missed, the impact she made on those close to her will be eternally felt. Debi's daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Conrad Williams, and their children Logan and Sawyer, along with her son Ryan Dougherty, and his daughter Harper kindly ask that, in place of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Naples Players. As they say, "The show must go on"; and Debi's loved ones hope that her memory will play a lasting role in your hearts.

A celebration of life will be held later this spring.
