Deborah McGarry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2025.

Deborah Rose (VanOort) McGarry, beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend, passed away on July 23, 2025. Born on July 4, 1966 in Schenectady New York, Deb grew up in the Schenectady and Rotterdam community, where she lived her entire life.

Deb lived a life full of warmth and kindness, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was immensely proud of her husband and two sons. Deb deeply cared about others, and could always be counted on to support her loved ones. Deb was someone everyone relied on - we took comfort in her constant presence and steady support.

She graduated from Schalmont High School in Rotterdam and earned a degree in Culinary Arts from Schenectady Community College. She loved her job as Administrative Assistant at the Schalmont Middle School. Deb was an extraordinary cook and hostess, known for her generous spirit and incredible culinary creations. Her family and friends cherished the many gatherings she hosted, always filled with good food and joy.

Deb is survived by her Husband, Shaun McGarry and her two sons, Hayden and Conrad. She is also survived by her sister Dawn Holley, her brother, Douglas VanOort, and by her nieces and nephews Kyle Holley, Dillon, Jordan, Harrison and Grace VanOort, and Lucas and Ethan McGarry. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Corinne VanOort, her Father, Richard VanOort and her nephew Josh Holley.

Deb will be remembered for gentle kindness, cheerful disposition, unwavering loyalty, festive holiday gatherings, and her Italian signature dishes - especially her sausage and peppers along with countless other favorites.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 1st from 5:00 to 8:00pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, August 2 at 9:30am, also at the Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
