Denise Caldwell Obituary

Published by Sacramento Bee on Sep. 19, 2012.
Denise Marie (Guth, Rosenberg) Caldwell May 17, 1962 - September 13, 2012 Denise Marie Caldwell was tragically and suddenly taken from her loving family. A long time resident of El Dorado County, Denise worked as an occupational therapist for UC Davis Medical Centers, Shriners Hospitals for Children, El Dorado County Office of Education and most recently the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Denise is survived by her husband of 13 years, Robin (Scott) Caldwell, son Jeffrey Rosenberg, stepdaughters Jennifer Lange and Jamie Caldwell, stepson John Neff, sister Maria Kay Shallcross, brothers Robert Guth, Kenneth Guth and Timothy Guth. Denise was lovingly known as "Nona" to her grandchildren Ian, Zephyn, Abby, Zoe, Casey, Ellie. Denise was born and grew up in San Jose, California. From a young age Denise loved dancing music, theater, art and reading. Activities that continued into her adult life. Denise constantly explored new hobbies. Among Denise's many talents were cosmetology, sewing, painting, drawing, beading, woodwork and crafting which she expressed and shared with others in so many ways. As an occupational therapist specializing in burn recovery, Denise had a profound impact on the children and adults she touched. Denise trained her Sheltie "Suky" as a therapy dog for special needs children. Denise travelled to Peru with Doctors Without Borders to aid children disfigured by accidents. Denise loved family -- it did not matter if it was a holiday gathering or singing around the campfire. Denise also loved being a part of a small close knit community. Her presence will be greatly missed but she will never be forgotten by those to whom she was connected. A memorial service will be held 6:00 PM Saturday 22 September 2012 at Cameron Park Community Center, 2502 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park, CA 95682. Please wear some pink in remembrance of Denise's love of the color. Memorial contributions may be made in Denise's name to Shriners Hospital for Children or online at http://support.shrinershospitals.org/site/TR?pxfid=5930&pg=fund&fr_id=1030

To Jeffrey and Scott, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of your loss. I worked as an OT colleague with Denise at UCDavis Medical Center and will always remember her creativity and dedication to our patients. May you find comfort in the love and support of family and friends at this very difficult time. Mary Lou Burke

Scott, Jeffrey, and all of those other special souls (four leggeds and two leggeds) that will miss Denise,
I wished I could have attended the memorial but I was just informed of what happened today,(a week after the event). I was initially shocked and had to search the Bee and the Mountain Democrat to understand how could it be?
I am truly saddened for your loss and send the warmest of thoughts during such a challenging time.
The patients and the staff at Arm and Hand Rehab were so blessed to have Denise in their lives. She was a friend, a colleague and a cherished human being! Having suddenly lost a father and step-mother in a car accident just a decade ago... I am too familiar with the pain, the confusion, the tears, the anger and emotions that require time to help heal the pain. With all of the kind and thoughtful words, the meaning of it all and healing will eventually follow. What was helpful to me, and I hope will be for you is, that when you see things that made her feel happy, you feel the same joy.
Also, the reflections of all of those leaving messages here and the light from all of the candles might validate just how special Denise was to you and to so many others. Denise was and always will be "the light" and shall always be within us.
My warmest wishes

I have very fond memories of Denise. We worked side by side at UCDMC and even sat next to each other in the office. She would cut my hair during lunch break, and I still have the necklace she made me out of craft clay with my three children as Christmas elves! She was such an inspiration to everyone; a woman of so many talents! I am sorry for her tragic loss. May God's peace and comfort surround you.

Dear Jeffrey and Scott,
Though you both do not know me, I remember Denise as colleague at UCDMC. She helped me as I started as a new OT on acute care. She was an excellent therapist with skills that I aspired to gain under her tutilage.
I trust that you have loved ones around to help you both through this difficult time. Her beautiful spirit will live on in you , through you.
Peace to you both.

My deepest condolences to Denise's family - Please know that although life will go one for all those who were fortunate enough to know her, it will be different; times when something that reminds them of Denise will bring a quiet smile to their hearts. I will always remember her warm and sincere smile and feel fortunate to have known and worked with her.

A few years back when I was lucky enough to get to know Denise a little while my son received weekly OT services at Folsom Hills and Russell Ranch schools, I realized what a special person she was. She was a very patient, caring person who was so good with kids. She will be greatly missed. I remember her bringing in her therapy dog when I would bring Josh in for OT, which was very calming for him. Denise helped him so much in the two years that she worked with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this time.

My sincere sympathies to Denise's family. She will be missed very much at Sandra J. Gallardo Elementary School. What a beautiful, sweet and compassionate person she was- and how we loved when she brought Suky her therapy dog. Sending my thoughts and prayers...

Dear Scott... Denise was such a special lady... such a sweetheart. I was blessed to have known her. She has had such an impact on the students at our school and all the lives that she came in contact with every day. A few weeks ago she spent an hour in my classroom... that day my own children were there visiting... they met her and fell in love with her. She was so open, friendly and sweet! I miss her... and I know she will be missed by so many.. May God bless you with strength, hope, comfort and peace at such a time when everything seems lost to you and your family. My heart and prayers are with you.

I got to know Denise by bringing our daughter Shannon to her to therapy sessions when Denise was her OT through FCUSD. Very few therapists were able to work with our daughter without upsetting her, but Denise was able to, and our daughter made progress.

Denise was a light on our journey, who shared her knowledge, her skills, and her wit.
I will miss her. She was a blessing.
My heart goes out to her family.

Denise, Thank you for giving my brother the best years of his life. I am sorry I did not get to know you better, but the short times we were together were so memorable. Your thoughtfulness, gift of giving, unbelievable talents that never seemed to end showed a true Angel on Earth.

Though Denise provided OT therapy for my son for just a few sessions, even in that short period of getting to know her, it was easy to see that she was truly a loving and caring person who was very passionate about helping the children she worked with. She touched the lives of so many special needs kids and families in a positive way, and she will definitely be missed.

I'll definitely be praying that God will comfort all of you through this very difficult time. I am so sorry!
