Denise Gilroy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 12, 2011.
Denise M. Gilroy

Denise Marie Gilroy, 52 years old, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family. Denise lived most of her life with her loving, caring and dedicated mother, Dorothy M. Gilroy, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was the man of her life, her father, Joseph M. Gilroy, Grandparents, Stanley and Madeline Bokunewicz and John and Catherine Gilroy, and nephew, Donnie McGeachy.

Denise was challenged with having Cerebral Palsy at birth, however, this did not stop her from living her life to the fullest. She enjoyed all types of music, but her favorite was the The Oldies and Tony Orlando. Denise enjoyed watching TV in her room. She enjoyed talking on the phone to her friends and family. Denise especially enjoyed her time spent with her staff members doing crafts, playing card games, and going out in the community. She was an active member of the Handicapped Crusaders Club in Fairless Hills. Denise also enjoyed dances at Truman High School.

Denise's passion in life was her family. Along with loved ones that preceded her in death, she will be sadly missed by the following, her brother, Kevin Gilroy of Langhorne, sister, Debbie Kline (Jeff) of Dublin, and sisters, Dot Damarodis (Michael) and Donna Szafranski (Stan) of Bensalem; her nieces and nephews, Kelly Kline McCavitt (Dave), Kelly Baronofsky (Tom), Shannon Parkes (Michael), JoAnn Ligato (Steve), Megan Parkes (Chuck), Jody McGeachy (Tim), Kristen Battershall (BJ), Nicole Szafranski (Joe), Michael Damarodis, Kevin Szafranski, Jake Kline, Kevin Gilroy, Erin Damarodis and Joe Kline; several great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Denise will also be missed by her staff members (friends) with whom she spent a lot of time with, Megan Ronning, Sandy Anderson, Lisa Hemmingway, Annette Cressman and Daniel Ma.

Denise enjoyed working; she was employed most recently at APS in Trevose. She met many good friends through her experience there. Denise was a special person and was loved by all. She brought happiness into the lives of all she met.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, 10:00 until 11:30 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where her Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions in her name be made to either; APS, 325 Andrews Rd., Trevose, PA 19053 or to Handicapped Crusader's c/o Emmaus Road Chu

To all of the family, my heart felt sympathy. I'm glad I had the opportunity to know Denise and will always remember her wittiness!! She now is in a better place "dancing" with the angels.

This message is from my son Joey Montague... Denise was a wonderful person and friend. I will miss working with her and talking on the phone. I will try not to cry but I will never forget Denise. And anyone going to Heaven before me should make sure they find her and tell her I hope she found her Iced Tea Fountain and can run. I know I will be able to walk and run when I get there, but I won't Iced Tea and Coffee. Love Joey xoxoxoxoxo
