Denise Nolan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2017.
Denise (Galante) Nolan of Fitzwilliam died Monday, Nov. 6, at her home after a battle with cancer. She was 61.

Mrs. Nolan was born in Paterson, N.J., to Salvatore Galante and June (Pieringer) Galante, on Feb. 18, 1956. She attended schools in Fair Lawn, N.J. She received her bachelor of music in flute performance from Keene State College, and her Master of Music in musicology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She also held a bachelor's in accounting from Franklin Pierce University.

Mrs. Nolan adored spending time with family, especially her granddaughters.

Music was Mrs. Nolan's love and passion. She was a founder of Monadnock Flutes and a founder and director of the Franklin Pierce Flute Ensemble at Franklin Pierce University where she had been an adjunct music professor since 1985.
Mrs. Nolan gave private flute and piano lessons, and also directed the flute ensemble and taught music at Elm City Music in Keene. She also was a past adjunct faculty member at Keene State College, where she led the flute ensemble and taught several music courses.

She had performed with the Keene Chamber Orchestra, the Monadnock Chorus, the Keene Chorale, Raylynmor Opera, Winds in the Willows Flute Trio, and the Flootissimo Flute Ensemble, as well as a freelance musician. She was a piano technician and an associate member of the Piano Technology Guild.

Mrs. Nolan is survived by her husband of 39 years, Martin Nolan, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1977 in Troy, N.H. She leaves her two daughters, Lori Nolan of Seffner, Fla., and Melanie (Nolan) Moran and her husband, Kevin, and their children Reese and Hanna, of Pittsfield, Mass.; her parents Salvatore (John) Galante and his wife, Clara, of Mount Joy, Pa., and June (Pieringer) Galante of Skokie, Ill.; her brother, Steven, and his wife Robin; two sisters Shari (Lofgren) Young and her husband, Doug, and Julie (Lofgren) Leno and her husband, Jim; and nieces, nephews and brothers in-law and sisters in-law.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Troy, N.H., on Saturday, November 11 at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 4 Fitzwilliam Road, Troy, NH 03465, and to Elm City Music, care of Jason Koerber, 441 Main St., Keene NH 03431.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Denise. She was my flute ensemble director at Keene State and Franklin Pierce for quite some time. I continued to play under her direction with the Monadnock Flutes for a long time after graduation. She so graciously played at my wedding with the group as well. She was always so professional, but knew how to make playing music fun, even when I didn't practice. She will be deeply missed.
Thinking of you and your family.

I had the privilege to conduct this wonderful lady when she played with the A Natural Concert Band. Her body is dead, but her musical soul is awake and ... who knows where?!
