Dr. Dennis Weston AsKew, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A wonderful tribute, honoring his life was published in the Friday, January 29, 2021 edition of the Greensboro News and Record.
A private memorial service celebrating Dennis's life will be held on Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family as ask that all interested in watching the private services, may watch them via livestream after 2:00 pm on Sunday. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, uncle, mentor, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert L. AsKew.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife of 33 ½ years, Kimberly Applebee AsKew; their children, Taylor AsKew Guerra (Jorge); Alexander Weston AsKew (finacee, Emily Lott), and Jessica Willis AsKew; his mother, Sally Curtis AsKew; aunt, Martha Hodge (Royce); brother-in-law, David Applebee; sister-in-law, Stephanie Applebee; sister-in-law, Lenna Applebee; brother-in-law, Chuck Applebee; nephews and nieces, Jonathan Applebee, Jackson Applebee, Katherine Applebee, Nicolas Applebee, and Benjamin Applebee; and other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music Scholarship Fund.

Listening to the Market Street Brass Christmas CD over the holidays reminded me of what a great colleague and performer Dennis was. I feel lucky to have been a part of that group and to have shared music and laugher with him.

Devastated is not strong enough to describe my feelings when Petey called me. I was heart broken. May you all cherish the many great memories you have of him. I meant so much to me to talk with him on October 18th after Linda's service. Though we were not in close contact the last few years, he remained in my heart and mind always. Deepest Sympathies!

Joan and I are so very sorry for your loss of Dennis. He was a great friend and colleague while I was on the School of Music faculty. We shared many wonderful times as members of the Market Street Brass,
making music and enjoying each other's company. I am glad to have known him; he was a gifted and accomplished musician, but above all a really good man.
