Dennis Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2023.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Dennis W. Davis of Audubon, NJ (formerly of South Philadelphia, PA) died peacefully at the age of 75.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sally (Burdy), brother Joseph [Helen (Cookie)] Davis of Philadelphia, his three boys Jon (Leslie O'Neill) of Sicklerville, NJ, Brian (Michelle Lambert) of Marshfield, MA, and Colin (Erin Durisin) of Somerdale, NJ. Dennis is also survived by his 5 Grandchildren: Jack, Blake, Aubrey, Nolan, and Miles. He will be welcomed by his predeceased family: Matilda & Jack Evers and sister Geraldine Truxton.

Dennis was a man of simplicity and humble upbringings with a passion for all things Philadelphia sports, food and of course desserts. A gentle and kind spirit, he will be remembered as a man of few words but could recite verbatim any article written in the Philadelphia Inquirer or laugh with you about one of the many recent rants on Philly Sports Radio.

Dennis served in US Army during the Vietnam War, followed by more than 30+ years working for the Department of Defense at the base in South Philadelphia, eventually finishing his career in the NE Navy Depot.

Services will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 300 E. Kings Highway, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035. Visitation will be held between 10:00am - 11:20am followed by his funeral Mass at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in his memory to a charity of the doner's choice or the VA Hospice Unit of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Community Living Center,3461 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104, which oversaw his care in his final days, whose care allowed him to leave us filled with love and the dignity he deserved.

My memories of Dennis who was my cousin is mostly from our early years together growing up . He was indeed a quiet, lovable child who was liked by all who knew him.
We were fortunate to grow up together along with my cousin Billy Paullin in a close knit family with traditional Catholic values.
Many a Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons brought our combined families together at Tillies' and Joe's or in Helen and Bill's kitchens. This allowed us all to share holiday and birthdays. It also gave the cousins time to play and grow up together.
Dennis let us take the lead and sat back and laughed when our actions wound up getting us into trouble with him saying " Told You So".
Proms, college and marriage wound up taking us down different directions.
Dennis's path was one of a "Quiet Man" who all of us remember fondly and proudly to have called our friend and cousin.
