Dennis Fruge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2025.
Dennis David Fruge, age 76, passed away on April 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. A Houston native, he was born on October 15, 1948.

He attended Texas Christian University, where he was a proud member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and later completed his business degree at Loyola University in Louisiana. As a postgraduate, he studied petroleum and land management, working most of his professional career as a landman-a role which served both as a source of pride and purpose.

Born to Paul Sr. and Ruth Fruge, Dennis grew up on five acres on Taylorcrest, located in the Memorial area of Houston. Like his mother before him, Dennis lived with strength, deep loyalty, and a heart devoted to his family. His love for the outdoors and sense of adventure were shaped by time spent on the family's ranch, where he worked cattle, rode horses, and shot guns-learning the value of hard work and how to live life boldly. He attended Memorial Drive Elementary and Memorial High School, forming lifelong friendships with classmates.

Dennis lived a vibrant and full life. He had a beautiful smile, a sharp style, an effortless charm, and an infectious laugh. His presence lit up every room and drew people in. He lived with a sense of adventure and style that made life feel bigger, brighter, and more fun for everyone around him. His hobbies were many. He flew airplanes, sailed open waters, and skied down snowy mountains. He had a deep love for music, always quick to share a favorite song or turn up the volume! His life's passion, however, was golf, he would've played every day if he could.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Karen Fruge and his six children: Jonas (Christine) Fruge, Garth (Jessica) Fruge, Desi (Mike) Mataya, Brooks (Sara) Fruge, Tucker (Ashley) Fruge, and Remi (Zach) Woodfin. He was also a proud 'Popi' to eight grandchildren-Banyan, Miles, Sloan, Myla, Jett, Waylon, Knox, and Noah. He is also survived by his siblings Paul (Donna) Fruge, Jr, Ruthie Fruge, and Gary Fruge, his Uncle Abraham Rodriguez, his Aunt Esther Schwab, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

His legacy lives on in the family he raised, the friends he held dear, and the life he lived so fully. A celebration of life will be held on May 24th from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at The Club at Falcon Point, 24503 Falcon Point Drive, Katy, Texas.

Karen and the entire Fruge Family.

I'm so sorry to have missed the memorial service for Dennis. I did not know that he had passed away. Dennis was a great guy and even though we hadn't seen each other much in the last 10 years or so, I felt a special bond with Dennis that developed during the years that we worked together. He was a special soul and I truly enjoyed our friendship. May he rest in peace.
