EAST FAIRFIELD - Dennis N. Kane, age 72, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday September 10, 2003.

He was born May 11, 1931 in Sheldon the son of the late Roscoe & Imelda (Gervais) Kane.

Dennis was a 1949 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. Following high school he went on to serve his country with the U.S.Air Force during the Korean War.

On November 14, 1958 he married Joy Casavant. Dennis & Joy owned & operated a dairy farm in East Fairfield for 23 years, retiring in 1984. Following retirement he was employed by Bourdeau Brothers Grain Co. in Sheldon retiring earlier this year.

Dennis was actively involved in local politics, including, serving on the Fairfield School Board for 9 years, Fairfield Selectman for 6 years, and many years as the Zoning Administrator. He was also a strong supporter of the Franklin County Home Health Agency, having served on their board of directors.

He was also a member of the Enosburg Lions Club for 18 years and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 2001, a former member of the board of directors of the Franklin County Field Days. He belonged to the V.F.W. Robert Glidden Post in St. Albans and the American Legion Post 42 in Enosburg Falls. He was a member of St. Anthony's - St. George's Catholic Church in East Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy (Casavant) Kane of East Fairfield; their 5 children and their spouses, Laurie & Vincent Chaloux of St. Albans, Scott & Diane Kane of West Granby, CT., Kevin & Penny Kane of Fletcher, Candy & Steve LaCombe of Mechanicsville, VA, and Shana Kane & Andy Bushey of Anchorage, AK; his grandchildren, Tiffany Gagne and her husband James, Nikki Chaloux, Roscoe, Arland "Buddy", Shannon, and Megan Kane, Luke Livingston, Hannah & Andrew LaCombe, and Claire Bushey; a great granddaughter, Kya Gagne; 3 brothers, George Kane and his wife Rolande of Franklin, Patrick Kane of Deland, Fl, and Ralph Kane of Sheldon; 2 sisters, Carmen Florence Prive and her husband Joseph of Inverness, FL, and Gertrude Kane of Burlington; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irmalee Kane of Sheldon, Cecile Casavant of Fairfield, Ralph & Kay Casavant of Enosburg Falls, Jill Caswell of Fairfield, and Ridgley & Donna Casavant of Enosburg Falls; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Marcel Kane; a sister, Irene LaRose - Jeffords.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 15, 2003 at 11:00 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fairfield with Rev. Joseph Sullivan celebrating the mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 6-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

Joy Kane and Family,

It is with deepest sympathy we send our condolences. I am glad you liked the plant. Dennis always brought sunshine to any room. We will miss him, but know that his memory will live on forever.

Dear Joy and Family:

We sincerly regret not seeing the passing of Dear Dennis until the ceremonies were over. We truly love Dennis and always enjoyed being in his company. Please know that we are sincerly sorry to hear of your loss, your childrens loss and all that knew Dennis Kane. He is now with Marcel and we pray that only joy surrounds them.
