Major Dennis A. Necker, USAF (Ret.), 76, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, August 31, after a brief and valiant battle with COVID-19. Due to underlying health conditions, despite being vaccinated and taking every possible precaution since the beginning of the pandemic, masks, avoiding gatherings and not going into restaurants, etc, he was infected with the disease most probably from someone unvaccinated. Another's carelessness cost him his life and left his family without their beloved husband and father. The family urges everyone who is not vaccinated to acknowledge they are endangering the lives of others and asks them in the strongest possible terms to get vaccinated and help us end this pandemic so others will not experience such a preventable and unnecessary loss. Dennis was born on April 25, 1945 in Allentown, PA. He joined the US Air Force after graduating from NC State and proudly served for 20 years, retiring at the distinguished rank of Major. Not one to sit idly, he was a lifelong keen golfer and after moving to Daniel Island, SC, enjoyed the play and comradery with his Charleston National friends. Dennis is survived by his wife, Stella Necker; children, Chale' Inman (Jeremy), Charlotte Tueckmantel (Frank), Dana Brigham (Matthew), and Stephen Harvey (Beatrice Fu); sister-in-law, Pauline Necker; his nieces, Debbi Thompson and Devon Pace; four grandchildren and six great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Necker; mother, Frances Necker; brother, David Necker; and nephew, Douglas Necker. He was an adoring husband, father, father-in-law and uncle, and a fiercely loyal friend. His presence was a constant joy, his generosity knew no bounds. His death leaves a profound emptiness. A Celebration of Life will be held at Charleston National Golf Club, Tuesday October 12th, at 4:30 PM. Inurnment will be held with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. The family wishes to thank his care team at MUSC Ashley River Tower ICU and all healthcare workers for their tireless efforts to provide care and service during this pandemic and always. People wishing to honor Dennis's life and commitment to this country can please get vaccinated against COVID-19. Memorials may be made in his name to Trident Literacy Association by visiting www.tridentlit.org

What a great guy! we were so very sorry when we heard the news of his passing! He and Pat had just reconnected after several years! They served at a couple military bases together and spent a lot of time in the KC-135 Tanker together! He will be missed! Pat and Patty Collson

This photo was a great moment from 2003. That was a great moment and that is how I remember Dennis. AND Our last great moment was in Las Vegas at the birthday party of Frank.
We wish the family much strength and energy. Health is the most important thing, that's what we all want.
Greetings from Hamburg, Ralf & Martina

I just learned today about the loss of your loving husband, father, grandfather. My sincere condolences to your family. When I was a child my grandfather, Tom Burk, worked at Trexler Orchards and my grandparents lived in a double house which was shared with the Necker family. I visited my grandparents often and had fun times with Dennis and other kids in that small neighborhood. Lots of great memories. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Diane (Burk) Geist

Dennis was my first childhood friend and next-door neighbor in Orefield, PA. His mother Frances was our Cub Scout Den Mother, and his father Edward worked with my father at Trexler Orchards. Dennis's big brother was our protector and role model. They were all the best people and I miss them still.

To know Dennis, I have had many privileges. I was privileged to be able to tend to his garden once, which I thoroughly enjoyed and I know he found most amusing. I was privileged to host him on his visit to South Africa. It was a privilege to enjoy the wonderful spectacle of Londolozi with him. It was a privilege to play golf with him at Prince's Grant and at Charleston National, the rivalry was fantastic. I once asked Dennis to find us a dodgy joint so we could have a drink after golf. He took us to Richards. Just perfect! I still had so much to talk to Dennis about, sadly that is no longer possible. It was indeed a privilege to know Dennis Necker - thank you Dennis and Stella for your wonderful hospitality. May Dennis rest in peace

We are so profoundly sad about the passing of dear Dennis, he truly was an amazing person and we were blessed to have known him. We were lucky to have spent such great times with him on the golf course, around the camp fire, sharing a drink and a great many laughs, in both South Africa and the US, they will be treasured forever
