Dennis L. Schlomann

Dennis L. (Denny) Schlomann age 68 of Butterfield died on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the Madelia Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield with Pastor Lowell Asplund officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Butterfield City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 pm at the Pease Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to the service at the church.Dennis was born on August 21, 1940, in St. James to Harry and Lynda (Senf) Schlomann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. James. He attended St. Paul’s Parochial School and was a 1958 graduate of St. James High School. Denny began working with Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and also enlisted in the Army in 1958. He served in the Army for nearly three years. His marriage to Joan Freeman took place on February 27, 1965, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. They lived in Butterfield following their marriage. Denny had worked as a brakeman-conductor for the railroad for 39 years and had retired on December 21, 1997. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield, the American Legion in St. James and a member of the United Transportation Union and had served as the legislative representative of the union. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, pheasant hunting and following the local sports teams.Denny is survived by his wife Joan; sons, Les and Brian (Kyla) all of Butterfield, Al (Danielle) of Ham Lake, Minnesota and Brad of Windom; grandchildren, Jared, Annika, Derek and Kaitlyn; sister, Julie Schlomann and brother-in-law, Carl Dougherty both of Northfield, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Lorie Schlomann of Courtland; mother-in-law Mary Nootenboom of Madelia and other in-laws, Gary (Linda) Freeman of Searles, Brenda (Roger) Kelly of Madelia and Jim (Dorane) Larson of St. James and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ken and Randy and sister, Adonna.
