Derrick Schmidt

Derrick Thomas Schmidt, age 11, of Belle Plaine died on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at his home in San Francisco Township surrounded by his family. He was born in Waconia, MN on August 1, 1996, to Terry and Jenny (Klehr) Schmidt. Derrick went to school in Jordan and recently transferred to the new elementary school in Belle Plaine. He loved camping, fishing, music, going to school, playing ball, going swimming and loved to be with his family and friends. Derrick is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Earl H. Schmidt and Felix Klehr; uncles, Steve Klehr and Tom Deutsch; cousins, Ryan Laabs and Rosa Schmidt.Derrick is survived by his parents, Terry and Jenny of Belle Plaine; sister, Elizabeth Schmidt; grandparents, Richard and Mary Klehr and Gary and Nella Schmidt of Belle Plaine; great-grandparents, Eldora Schmidt and Agnes Klehr of Belle Plaine; aunts and uncles, Steve (Sheila) Schmidt of Belle Plaine, Scott (Karla) Schmidt of Jordan, Linda Klehr of Le Sueur, Nancy Deutsch of New Prague, Pat (Dick) Laabs of Henderson, Jean (Roger) Thomason of Belle Plaine, Barb (Curt) Koepp of Belle Plaine, Rick (Pam) Klehr of New Prague, John (Kim) Klehr of Winthrop, Mark Klehr of Belle Plaine, Ann (Todd) Kahle of Belle Plaine, Jeff (Wendy) Klehr of Arlington; 44 cousins.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. James Kim will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue at the funeral home on Thursday from 8-10:15 a.m. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine.
