Derrick Steven Trent

Mr. Derrick Steven "Boss" Trent, 59, of Murray Street, was called home to be with our God on Sunday, May 22, 2022 unexpectedly. Derrick was born October 16, 1962 in Waterbury a son to Dorothy "Dolly" (Gaston) Trent and the late Edward "Bubba" Trent. Derrick was raised in LHP and was educated in the Waterbury public school system where he was a graduate of Crosby High School. During his childhood years, he spent many days at the Waterbury Boys Club and with the Berkley Knights Drill Team where he was a member for many years. After graduating, Derrick began working at Southbury Training School as a firefighter for many years until his recent retirement. Derrick had a true passion for studying the word of his God. He left behind volumes of notes and studying material. He often watched Pastor Murray at Shepherds Chapel in MO. Derrick was an admired chess player since the age of 7. He loved sports, boxing, cards, board games, ping pong, pool and basketball. We all can remember him calling a "Travel". Derrick also enjoyed camping, cooking and telling stories. He loved to reminisce about the old days and sharing the stories with everyone and we all enjoyed listening. No matter what the story was about, you were guaranteed to laugh. His personality was that which caused people to gravitate to him because you knew that you were going to have a good time. He was known to always wear basketball shorts and cut off tee shirts no matter what the temperature was. Don't e fooled because he definitely knew how to dress to impress for the right occasion. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him In addition to his mother Dorothy, Derrick leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters; Jashala and Tiasha Sands both of Waterbury, the mother of his daughters, Marjorie Sands of Waterbury, grandchildren; Tamiya, Harmony-Monike Martin, Colin "JuJu", Alexander Cruz, Ja'lexie Sands, Ason and Naveah-Nyree Sands all of Waterbury, brothers; Craig, John and Ebon Trent, sisters; Tara, Sheila and Ebone Trent, several aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brother Garland Trent.
