Dexter Carter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2010.
Dexter Gordon Carter was born December 9, 1942 of the union of Joseph and Mary Carter in Coatsville, Pa. He was the only child. He was a graduate from Downington High School. Dexter enlisted in the United States Army and he received an honorable discharge in 1967. He later went back to school to obtain his Associates Degree. Dexter moved to St. Louis, MO in August of 1968. He confessed his hope in Christ at a very early age. He was recently baptized again in October of this year at Faith Church in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Joyce Carter for 42 years and to this union they have three children, Mansel, Irasa and Sarajeni. Dexter worked at General motors for 30 years and retired as a Quality Control Inspector. He was an accomplished entrepreneur. Dexter lived the life that most people dreamed about. Dexter touched the lives of many people with his love, smile and generosity. He made friends wherever he went, he never met a stranger. He was the best husband, father, brother, uncle and friend one could have. He loved his family with his whole heart and his friends also had a special place. Many people felt that he was one of the most genuine people they have ever met. Dexter's value were the key element that held the family together. He spoke with wisdom and love; he was the most optimistic man we've ever known. Dexter was a very adventurous man when it came to his family. He had no limitations. He made sure that his children enjoyed their childhood by exposing them to camping, boating and traveling all over the United States. The greatest joy to Dexter was always his children. Dexter taught his daughters how to be confident, self sufficient women. Dexter taught his son the importance of family and how to be an honorable man. Dexter was a remarkable and wonderful husband. The journey Joyce experienced with Dexter was filled with the most breathtaking trips, incredible conversations, loving gestures, and courageous times. Dexter answered the voice of the Lord calling his name on Wednesday, December 23, 2010. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Left with a complete measure of devotion and fond memories are: his beloved wife, Joyce Carter; children, Mansel Carter, Irasa (Durtis) Downing and Sarajeni (Arnel) Hammond; his treasured grandchildren, Mansel Carter, Jr., Adrian Carter, Kira Downing, Kumari Downing, Moriah Hammond and Miah Hammond; along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. Dexter's life would seem too short to many, but those whom he touched understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which he lived.
