Diane King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 16, 2024.
Diane Grace King (nee Stewart) born October 19, 1946, passed away peacefully with her son Norman King (Dianna), her daughter Shawna and son-in-law Sean Zawada on December 28, 2023.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wilson & Grace Stewart. She is survived by her sisters, Linda Farquhar (Michael) and Phyllis Butler (Bruce).

Diane found her greatest joy in her grandkids, Jessica, Ashley and Adam. Just before Christmas Jessica (Andrew), Ashley and Adam all flew to Calgary for a weekend visit and played her favourite game, Scrabble.

Even though the last few years took a toll, she never missed a get-together with family or friends. In May 2023 she had an epic vacation in Scottsdale. She was joined by nephews Graham and Alex (and Alex's family, Rosanna, Adrian, Nicolas and Simon), her grandkids, Norm, Dianna, Shawna and Sean

She loved her trips to the North Shore to be with the Butler family. Nieces Kate (Sam, James, Lucy. Claire, Annie), Kim (Kei, Eli, Hana) and nephew Dan (Rena), Paula, Mike and Mary were always ready for a card game or a picnic lunch.

Diane and Gayle (Norm) Robinson were the most amazing grandmas you could imagine. They were always the first to greet the girls with roses after their dance recitals or cheer on the sidelines at Adam's soccer games.

She had so many people who loved her and she was especially grateful to her Calgary family. Olga (John), Audra (Jody), Josh, Jenny, Gill, Bobby and Lee

She started her working career as a teacher in Fort St. John. After moving back to the mainland, she raised her kids in beautiful White Rock, BC. The memories created in White Rock will live on forever.

In 2008 she retired from a successful 29-year career at CRA where she received multiple accolades for her dedication and performance. In retirement she began volunteer teaching English as a second language and taking some amazing trips to see the world with family and friends. The icing on the cake was spending a week in France with her kids and grandkids! She loved reading, lunch with friends and a walk at the White Rock beach.

Diane only spoke with kindness and was genuinely interested in knowing everything going on in your life. She had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

She leaves a hole in the lives of so many whom she touched with her kindness, her laugh and that amazing smile.

Diane's Celebration of Life will be held on February 24, 2024, 11 am-2 pm at Victory Memorial Park 14831 28th Ave Surrey, BC and is open to those who knew and loved her.

John and I met Diane over 20 years ago when she became Family and a dear friend. She always had a smile, a kind and loving heart and a big hug that made you feel special.
I think of you often Diane and especially today. I will truly miss you.
Love, Olga

My first memory of Diane is her wearing an eye patch after her surgery. She was perhaps 6 and I was 4. Our mother gave us great freedom to roam our small Saskatchewan village, but she always warned us girls to "hold hands". When I visited Diane in Calgary this past December, her eyesight was poor and walking was not easy, so once again, we held hands and held on tightly to each other. What joy to be together like that. And oh what a loss for me- her passing leaves a hole in my heart!

I worked with Diane for many years at the CRA, but I got to know her more as my mother´s neighbour. She and my mother would often share a glass of wine, and I would be there as well. Diane was a very kind and generous person. I remember her smile. She had a great sense of humour and a great laugh!
Also, funny story it turned out her cat Snowball lived at my mothers house part time. My mother thought it was her cat. They had a lot of laughs about that.

I met Diane in June 2007 as a group of us ladies attended an Elvis Festival in Penticton, BC. We became friends through a mutual friend and had many great times together. Four of us did several coach tours in BC and the US. One highlight was a ten day tour to Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. Diane always had a beautiful smile and loved to hear about our families and to tell us about her family. She was a very kind, caring lady and she will be missed!
