I mourn the loss of a cherished and dear friend. Diane Romano was a very special lady
Starting at Mr Travel in 1967 I first met Dee when she started work . She and Patti remained a part of my life ever since. I was at her Moms funeral . I worked with her when she had treatments for cancer and would then still come to work. I was there when son Ernie came to work at Mr Travel briefly. Dee and I were among the last employees hen Mr Travel closed its doors. We remained close friends even after the company closed. The last time I saw Dee was in August 2016 when She and Patti came out to the farm to have lunch and spend the afternoon with me. They were planned on doing it again this summer.
I have a wealth of memories flooding over me ,We went on company trips like California river rafting, Las Vegas junkets, and several International destinations.
Dee, Patti, and I shared a love of figure skating. For years, we would get tickets to Champions on Ice and Stars on Ice at the United Center (Stadium then) . We always had good seats but then our boss, Sid Kutchin, found out our interest, and for years after, we three were gifted front row seats.
Mr Travel had three big yearly events. The company trips mentioned , a grand Christmas Party at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in the Monarch Suites, and a summer picnic at a Chicago Forest Preserve Pavilion. At the last events, Dee and Patti co ordinated the games and activities .
Both Dee and Patti had cottages on a small lake nearby Antioch. I had the honor of visiting them several summers. The enclave had many folks with cottages and a social life there that spanned generations . As with the picnics, in Antioch Patti and Dee arranged the numerous summer activities. Their social group there was a integral part of their lives.
After the company ended there was a big reunion arranged by Becky Hensel at a Chicago bar. Everyone surrounded Dee and Patty. This was because in all the many years I was friends with Dee there was not one soul that ever had one thing bad to say about her. Dee was always kind, considerate, and caring of everyone around her. Her life was full of friends.
Dee and Patti were inseparable: The Boas Sisters . Their strong bond kept thir families so lovingly close.
Dee was a unique woman, a loving woman, a emarkable woman who brightened my life as well as the lives of all she touched. Her passing is a large loss for me, but I still have my mountains of good memories to console me. My heart goes out to the Romano and Liskiewicz families as I know that losing Dee will leave a large empty space in their lives. I grieve along with you.
