As a high school classmate of Don, we only recently reconnected via Facebook and I was hoping to see him again at an upcoming class reunion event. I remember his kind heart and warm spirit that accompanied his beautiful smile and amazing voice. You were truly a gift from God, and I am blessed to have known you. May God's peace and mercy be with your family doing this time. I know that you are in a better place, singing with angels...

We all experience sadness when we loose someone close but we must remember that Jesus will heal us.
I reflect on Don with much joy for that is what I experienced as he sang at my wedding reception in 2001 and as he and Cherita sand at my dear sister's funeral in 2009.
An angelic voice is what he was given, a gift from God. May we all have the opportunity to hear that voice again via CD's or on tape recorders. May the peace of our saviour Jesus Christ forever be with us all as we make this transition without him.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Charita,
May the comfort of the Lord keep you during this time. As I think back, during the time Don and I worked together at St. E's. I must tell you ... I so looked forward to his Million Dollar smile to enter my office. I would say to him "Sing Don Sing just a little piece of something" we do know one must always keep a song in their heart and he would laugh but always give me a note or two. Then the conversation became all about You. I must say he loved you with all his being. Just know that God know's what's best for all of us. The time will come where you two will see each other again.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Charita- There are no words to express how deeply sorry I am to hear about the loss of your beloved Don. The love you and Don shared will help you get through this difficult time. I had the honor of listening to Don sing at Brian and I's wedding 7 years ago. The room and time stood still as he belted out 'I will always love you." That song now has an entirely different meaning and will always have a place in my heart. God bless you today and always.

My condolences to the family, wife and children. Don was an awesome friend, minister and entertainer. I met Don in school and we stayed friends throughout our adulthood. I will really miss him. I hope you don't mind that I added some verses below; it just reminds me of an awesome singer who is looking back over the life and career that they were blessed with. I'm sure you all can remember Don singing a song just for you. God bless you all!
I've been so many places in my life and time.
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme.
I've acted out my love in stages With ten thousand people watching, but we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
I love you in a place where there's no space or time.
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine.
And when my life is over, remember when we were together.
We were alone and I was singing this song for you.
Remember when we were together,
We were alone and I was singing this song for you.

It was my great pleasure to have known Don during his time as part of the music ministry at Peoples Congregational Church where he sang with the Chancel Choir, as did I, and worked with the youth ministry. Don's heart was a big as his heroic voice and coupling all of that with an easy and quick sense of humor made him a delight to be around in so many ways. His spirit was strong too and as near tireless as it seemed his body and voice were. I am deeply saddened to hear of his loss in so unexpected and abrupt a way. He is fondly remembered at Peoples and will be deeply missed. Please know that our prayers will continue to be with the Jones family and may God receive Don's spirit, truly one of his own, into his Heavenly Kingdom.

Thank you, Dear Lord, for creating Don Diego Jones in YOUR image. Now I know that when I saw Don, I saw you.
To Charita, Pastor Best, and the entire family.
I thank God for the gift of Don in our lives. I miss him, too. But, I rejoice in knowing that I WILL see him again. Don shared a powerful word of faith with me once and I will forever remember how he used his talents for God’s Glory. I truly believe that when Don sang Psalm 23 with Jeff Majors at Coretta Scott King's funeral, he was singing his testimony. Don walked through the valley of the shadow of death fearing no evil; he was comforted by the Lord's rod and staff. Don now dwells in the house of the Lord. Lord, let me live so that when people see me, they really see you. To God be all the glory. I am praying for you all and am here for you.

Wow, this is still hard to believe. Don was just at my desk at work on Thursday, June 3 "cutting up" like only Don can do! Our moments of talking & laughing about the old New Bethel COGIC, grad school (HU), his family, work, and yes, how nice he was dressed will be missed. May God comfort, stregthen, and keep Don's wife and family. You all are in my prayers.

To the family of Don Jones:
You are in my prayers. I had the opportunity to work with Don as an employee of the PGCPS system. He was a wonderful man who used his gift of music to minister to others. May you continue to trust in the Lord for strength and comfort during this very difficult time.

There are so many things I will miss about this wonderful, unique Angel. He encouraged me in so many ways but mostly to walk with God. I'm thankful for God sharing Don with us; even if it was a short time. My office will never be the same. I will definitely miss sharing my Laffy Taffy candy with my friend and feeding into the ministry (Smile).
Charita and family, you are in my prayers. I pray God's peace be with you forever!

Dear Family and Friends: This is in honor of Elder Don Diego Jones. Don graduated from McKinley Tech HS 25 years ago and Howard University 19 years ago. He was my dear friend, choir/class mate, and Christian brother. I will never forget Don Jones; I pray for peace and unconditional love. "Rest in heavenly peace, saint." Sincerely,
